The snow-capped mountains of Qiaozi in Yunnan attract Vietnamese tourists in winter because of their beautiful scenery and lower cost compared to visiting the Jade Dragon Mountain in Lijiang.
Mount Qiaozi, located about 150 km from Kunming, attracts Vietnamese tourists at the end of the year due to its frequent heavy snowfall. This attraction is part of the Hekou - Kunming tourist route, which has become popular in the last two years due to its price of around 6-7 million VND per person.
Previously, Vietnamese tourists mainly chose to visit the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain on the Lijiang - Shangri-La tour route, with a total cost of approximately 14-19 million VND per person.

Visitors should prepare appropriate footwear for walking on snowy terrain to avoid slipping. At the Kieu Tu Snow Mountain tourist area, visitors can purchase spiked shoes for added safety.
Most tourists choose to buy a combo ticket that includes entrance, shuttle service, and two round-trip cable car rides to an altitude of 3,500 meters, priced at 138 RMB (approximately 500,000 VND). Stepping off the cable car, the scenery that unfolds before visitors is one of snow-covered rock formations. Some waterfalls are completely frozen, forming sharp ice shards that can be dangerous if climbers are not careful. The climb to the summit isn't too difficult, as there's a wooden staircase leading to near the highest point. The staircase to the summit curves in an oval shape, with some branches being one-way paths leading to other attractions such as the glacier (pictured).
The Kieu Tu mountain area has many lakes formed by glacial erosion, such as Than Lake, Thien Duong Lake, and Man Kieu Lake. The lake surfaces are covered with a thin layer of ice, creating a magnificent winter landscape.
Along the way, tourists can stop and take photos with bushes and rock formations covered in thick snow, creating many strange shapes. The magnificent sight of clouds seemingly clinging to the snow-covered ground also amazes visitors.
"It feels like being transported to a fairyland," said Mr. Hoang, a tourist from Hanoi .

The altitude of nearly 4,000 meters can cause altitude sickness in some tourists, such as headaches, dizziness, and in more severe cases, shortness of breath and chest pain. Therefore, tourists should consider their personal health or purchase a spare oxygen tank, which is readily available at the foot of the mountain for 25 RMB (approximately 90,000 VND). In addition, guides advise tourists to maintain a steady walking pace and bring snacks such as biscuits and chocolate for quick recovery.

The fir forests covering the mountain have earned it the nickname "natural oxygen" of Yunnan province. Tourists can encounter these trees anywhere along the way to conquer Qiaozi Mountain. The fir trees were covered in snow.
The best time to explore Mount Kieu Tu is from November to March. In spring, the snow-capped mountain takes on a unique beauty as the ice melts, revealing crystal-clear lakes. The rhododendron season, from April to June each year, also attracts visitors to this mountain.
