Mr. Quy Thieu, living in Berlin (Germany), shared with a tour group that his flight from Berlin to Ho Chi Minh City via Doha was expected to last 16 hours. However, in reality, it took nearly 50 hours to complete.
He was stranded when Qatar closed its airspace. When he looked at the electronic board at Hamad airport, it was all red with the word "delay" and then changed to "cancel". Passengers were confused and tired.
According to regional media, the war in the Middle East has forced many international airlines to change routes, delay or cancel flights. Accordingly, a representative of a Vietnamese airline noted that the rate of connecting passengers through transit hubs such as Doha and Dubai has decreased sharply, with some routes reaching only 50% compared to the normal level of 80-85%.
Ms. Le Ha, a passenger who recently traveled from Europe to Vietnam, said that flight QR970 from Doha to Ho Chi Minh City on June 26 landed at 2:42 p.m., 52 minutes behind schedule. The reason is believed to be that the flight departed late from Doha, 57 minutes late, possibly because the plane arriving from the previous leg was delayed in the assembly line. However, the luggage was still fully transported, and there were no incidents of loss.
As a frequent flyer who has flown through Doha 12 times since the beginning of the year, Ms. Le Ha said that currently there are only 1-2 small groups of about 20 people waiting for assistance at the ticket counter. If passengers already have tickets and a clear schedule, they can fly with complete peace of mind, unless a special situation arises.
In a letter sent to Qatar Airways Vietnam ticket agents, the airline said that flights to and from Doha have gradually resumed.
However, airlines recommend that passengers regularly monitor announcements from the airline and airport, and proactively prepare for unexpected changes that may arise in the context of the regional situation still containing many potential risks.
To minimize disruption, Qatar Airways has increased ground staffing at Hamad International Airport, its main hub, as well as at several other key airports around the world .
However, the airline representative also warned passengers about the possibility of continued delays or itinerary changes during the recovery period.
