Reenacting many ethnic festivals in the October cultural-tourism series

One of the highlight activities in the October cultural-tourism chain is the reenactment of the Water Drop Offering Ceremony of the Ba Na people (Gia Lai) and the Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony at the Khmer pagoda.

From October 1-31, at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism (Doai Phuong, Hanoi), a series of special cultural and tourism activities will take place in October with the theme "You are the flower of the mountain."

According to the Department of Culture of Vietnam's Ethnic Groups, the series of activities in October at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism not only contributes to affirming the mission of the "Common House", a place to gather, preserve and promote the cultural values ​​of 54 ethnic groups, but also brings rich cultural and tourism experiences to the community, arouses the spirit of solidarity and national pride, aims to educate the community on traditions and spread the love of heritage, while creating a space for exchange and unique experiences for domestic and foreign tourists.

Water offering ceremony of Ba Na people

One of the highlights of October activities is the reenactment of the Water Drop Offering Ceremony of the Ba Na people ( Gia Lai ). For the Ba Na people, water is the source of life, nurturing crops and villages.

The water offering ceremony is meant to pray for favorable weather, bountiful harvests, and at the same time demonstrates the spirit of community solidarity. After the solemn ceremony according to traditional rituals presided over by the village elder, visitors can immerse themselves in the joyful atmosphere of the festival, experience the folk cultural activities of the Ba Na people such as enjoying rice wine, exploring the space of gongs, xoang dance, and splashing water for luck.

In addition, the exchange program “Colors and fragrances of the great forest” will also introduce folk songs, dances, and traditional musical instruments of the Ba Na people and the ethnic groups of Xo Dang, Co Tu, Ta Oi, Gia Rai, etc. This is an opportunity for cultural subjects to directly introduce their ethnic identity, evoking pride and love for the village.

Throughout October, visitors to the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism will be able to explore the cultural space of the Ba Na people with many attractive activities: teaching gongs, bamboo musical instruments, brocade weaving, and weaving; experiencing folk games such as pounding rice with a double pestle, carving wooden statues, and walking on stilts; admiring traditional costumes, sophisticated brocade and weaving products, and participating in preparing typical dishes such as bamboo rice, grilled meat, and rice wine, under the direct guidance of ethnic artisans.

Kathina robe offering ceremony at Khmer pagoda

A highlight of the October activities is the Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony at Khmer pagodas. This is an important festival of Theravada Buddhism, taking place after the rainy season retreat (after the 15th day of the 7th lunar month).

The Kathina robe offering ceremony is usually held in October or November, depending on the lunar calendar of each country. During the festival, Buddhists will collect and prepare clothes, then hold a formal ceremony at the temple to offer the robes and other items to the monks.

The Kathina robe offering ceremony is an occasion for Buddhists to express their respect, gratitude and spirit of supporting the Triple Gem (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha). This festival is also an occasion to
Buddhist community gathers together, shares joy, strengthens faith and unites community.

In addition to the highlight activities, on weekends, at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, there are many exciting cultural and artistic activities imbued with traditional colors. That is the program "October Flowers" with special folk songs and dances, dedicated to women on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of Vietnamese Women's Day October 20.

The folk song and dance program “Melody of the Mountains and Forests”, with the participation of ethnic artists from the Central Highlands, brings to the public a musical space of gongs, T'rung, K'long put, Chapi… praising the homeland, village, Party and Uncle Ho.

The folk song and dance program of the Northern ethnic groups with the theme "The call of the love season" introduces the folk music performances of the Northern ethnic groups that are performed daily in the Village, expressing their love for their homeland and the beauty of their village.

In addition to cultural, artistic and tourism experiences, visitors to the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism can also enjoy the typical cuisine of the ethnic groups living in the Village such as: sticky rice, chicken cooked with bamboo shoots, grilled fish of the Muong and Thai people; khau nhuc and lap xuong of the Tay and Nung people; coffee and cocoa of the Ede people; or the delicate traditional cakes of the Khmer, Dao and Kho Mu people.

Not only stopping at performances, the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism also organizes many experiential spaces for tourists, especially students.

Children can participate in folk games such as mandarin squares, bamboo puppets, playing chess, bamboo pole dancing, seesaw; experience painting statues, sand paintings, bamboo dragonflies, trying on traditional costumes... helping the young generation learn folk knowledge, practice creativity, dexterity, and at the same time become more attached to nature and family./.
