(HNMO) - On the evening of June 3, the 12th Southeast Asian Para Games (ASEAN Para Games 12) officially opened at Moradok Techo National Stadium (Cambodia), marking the official competition days of disabled athletes from 11 Southeast Asian countries.
The opening ceremony was solemn and unique, bearing the Cambodian cultural imprint, on a scale similar to the opening ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games. After the art performance, 11 disabled sports delegations in the Southeast Asian region performed a parade. The Vietnamese disabled sports delegation participated in the 12th ASEAN Para Games with 159 members, including 119 athletes in 8 sports: athletics, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo and boccia (colored ball). The representative of the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation holding the flag was swimmer Do Thanh Hai.
On the first day of competition at the 12th ASEAN Para Games, June 3, the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation competed in men's badminton, men's and women's rapid chess. Despite their efforts, the Vietnamese athletes still did not win any medals on this day of competition. At the end of the badminton matches in the standing men's team event, Indonesia won the gold medal, Malaysia won the silver medal and Thailand won the bronze medal.
In the Men's Wheelchair Badminton Team event, Thailand won the Gold Medal with a victory over Malaysia after a dramatic competition between the two sides.
The 12th ASEAN Para Games hosted by Cambodia took place from June 3 to 9 with about 1,450 athletes from 11 countries participating, competing in more than 400 events in 14 sports, including: Athletics, badminton, boccia, chess, 5-a-side football, 7-a-side football, basketball for the blind, judo, weightlifting, swimming, table tennis for men and women, sitting volleyball for men and women, wheelchair basketball for men and women and e-sports. The Thai Para Sports Delegation had the largest number of athletes participating in the 12th ASEAN Para Games with 304 people, while the Timor Leste Para Sports Delegation had the smallest number with 13 people.
