Attending the ceremony were comrades: Pham Minh Chinh, Politburo member, Prime Minister; General Luong Tam Quang, Politburo member, Minister of Public Security, Chairman of the Vietnam People's Public Security Sports Association; Lieutenant General Nguyen Hong Thai, Party Central Committee member, Deputy Minister of National Defense; Le Quoc Minh, Party Central Committee member, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department; Major General Pham Kim Dinh, Director of the Department of Political Work, Ministry of Public Security.
Also attending were leaders of the Vietnam Football Federation; representatives of the Embassies of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Australia; and representatives of delegations participating in the tournament.
The 2025 ASEAN Police Football Tournament is held on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Public Security Traditional Day (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the 20th anniversary of the National Day for National Security Protection (August 19, 2005 - August 19, 2025).
The tournament was organized by the Ministry of Public Security, assigned to the Department of Political Work to preside over, in coordination with functional units of the Ministry of Public Security, the Vietnam People's Public Security Sports Association, the Vietnam Sports Department, the Vietnam Football Federation, and Vietnam Television, with the active support of many units and sponsors.
The tournament brings together 8 teams from 7 countries, including 5 teams in the ASEAN region (Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Thailand and Timor Leste), 1 guest team outside the region (Australia) and 2 host teams Vietnam.
Organized exclusively for the Police forces of ASEAN countries and partners, the tournament is not only an opportunity for police officers and soldiers of the countries to practice their health and develop team spirit, but also a playground to strengthen friendship and cooperation between forces tasked with ensuring security and order in the region.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Luong Tam Quang affirmed that the tournament was organized with the desire to strongly spread the spirit of solidarity, discipline, dedication, and inspiration of the king sport, strengthen solidarity and friendship between countries in the region and the world, as well as between Vietnam and other countries, between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Public Security and Police forces of other countries; promote close and effective cooperation between the Public Security and Police forces of other countries in ensuring security and order, fighting and preventing crimes, especially transnational crimes, for peace, security, safety, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world.
Minister Luong Tam Quang expressed his belief that the 2025 ASEAN Police Football Tournament will be a great success, bringing fans exciting matches and beautiful goals, leaving a strong impression; demonstrating solidarity, close and effective cooperation between the police forces of the countries to protect the peaceful and happy lives of the people, for peace for all mankind; at the same time, affirming that Vietnam is always ready to be a friend, a reliable partner and an active and responsible member in the international community, always striving to increase contributions to maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world.
This year’s tournament is organized according to international standards, from operations, stadiums, medical care, referees to techniques, all are carefully prepared. The participating teams possess quality players, who are well-trained.
Right after the opening ceremony, there was a match between the Vietnam Police Team I and the Thai team. At the same time, at PVF Stadium, the Vietnam Police Team II also had a match with the Australian team.
