On the evening of February 12, at Pham Thi Tran Theater, Hoa Lu city, Ninh Binh province, the Vietnam Writers Association coordinated with Ninh Binh province to organize the opening ceremony of the 23rd Vietnam Poetry Day with the theme "The Fatherland flies up."
Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission, beat the drum to open the 3rd Vietnam Poetry Day in 2025.
In his opening speech, poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers' Association , said that the 23rd Vietnam Poetry Day chose the verse "From your standing posture on the Tan Son Nhat runway/ The Fatherland flies up to the immense spring" in the poem "Vietnam's Standing Posture" by Poet, Hero and Martyr Le Anh Xuan as the theme to express honor and gratitude to all the children of the beloved land of Vietnam who have devoted their whole lives to the independence, freedom and unification of the country.
"We choose their stance to choose the stance of a nation that never knows how to kneel before any enemy. They fell in wars to protect the great Fatherland so that the Fatherland can stand up proudly as a human being. Today, we choose this land of history, culture, and majestic nature to organize the 23rd Poetry Day and together send a message of peace, of beauty, of the nation's aspiration to live a true life and the will to act for that aspiration to live," affirmed the Chairman of the Vietnam Writers' Association.
On the opening night, the audience listened to the recitation of poems by poets of many generations such as: "Nguyen Tieu" by President Ho Chi Minh, "Duc Thuy Son" by Truong Han Sieu, "Vietnam's Posture" by Le Anh Xuan, "We fight for you to live forever, Vietnam" by Nam Ha and works by poets Nguyen Dinh Thi, Nguyen Khoa Diem, Huu Thinh, Tran Dang Khoa, Phan Hoang, Nguyen Viet Chien, Tran Kim Hoa, Dinh Thi Nhu Thuy, Binh Nguyen.
Notably, this year's Poetry Day features the participation of American veteran poet Bruce Weigl with the poem "A poem dedicated to Mother Nguyen Thi Ve."
In addition, the Poetry Day space displays posters of 20 outstanding Vietnamese poets who received the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts; ancient and modern poems about Ninh Binh land.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 23rd Vietnam Poetry Day, Chairman of the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee Pham Quang Ngoc said that Vietnam Poetry Day was first held in 2003 to honor the good values of poetry and the contributions of poets to the development of national culture, and is a festival for those working in creative arts.
Proud to be the place that preserves many historical and cultural values passed down from generation to generation, Ninh Binh province has focused all resources on investing in preserving and promoting heritage values, developing culture, literature and arts.
Ninh Binh province hopes to continue receiving the attention, leadership and direction of the Party and State leaders, leaders of ministries, branches and central organizations, the joint efforts and consensus of intellectuals and scholars across the country, especially writers and poets across the country, so that Ninh Binh can successfully achieve the set goals, soon put Ninh Binh on the list of UNESCO creative cities and the poetic mountain of Duc Thuy Son - Nuoc Mountain soon become a world documentary heritage./.
