VHO - On July 28, in Saint Petersburg - the "Northern capital" of Russia, within the framework of a working trip to the Russian Federation, Ms. Ngo Phuong Ly, wife of General Secretary To Lam, visited the A.Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University (Herzen University) and cut the ribbon to inaugurate the Russian-Vietnamese Cultural Center there.

The event took place in the year the two countries celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and continued a series of vibrant cultural activities since General Secretary To Lam's visit to Russia last May.

Also attending the program were Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Hai Binh; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ngo Le Van; Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi.

On the side of the Russian Federation, there were Deputy Minister of Education of Russia Andrey Korneevm; Rector of the Russian State Pedagogical University named after AI Herzen Tarasov Sergey; representatives of the St. Petersburg City Government.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly emphasized the importance of the long-term relationship in the fields of culture and education between the two countries, which is an important element of the special traditional relationship, nurtured over many generations on the foundation of trust, loyalty and sharing.

The establishment of the Russian-Vietnamese Cultural Center at Herzen University is of great significance, as a space for the intersection of two rich cultures, where students, lecturers and those who love Vietnam can learn more deeply about the country, people, language and art of Vietnam.

The Lady believes that the Russian - Vietnamese Cultural Center will truly become a common home - a place where the intelligence, emotions and enthusiasm of those who love peace, culture and the Vietnam - Russia friendship converge.

Speaking at the ceremony, Russian Deputy Minister of Education Andrey Korneev affirmed that the inauguration of the Russia-Vietnam Cultural Center is an important event demonstrating the spirit of cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation in many fields.

This center will be a bridge of culture, art, music and language between the two countries, contributing to promoting the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Russia.

On behalf of Herzen University, Rector Sergey Tarasov highlighted the significance of the first Russian-Vietnamese cultural space at the university, continuing the tradition of friendship that many generations of Vietnamese students at the university have built together.

The highlight of the opening ceremony is the Vietnam-Russia friendship art program.

Mr. Tarasov thanked the exquisite art gifts including the book series “Ho Chi Minh with Vietnam - Russia friendship” and the painting of Khue Van Cac that his wife presented to the Center and believed that the newly opened center will become a foundation for further developing the relationship between the two countries.

The Russian-Vietnamese Cultural Center was established with the aim of developing joint educational projects, conducting scientific research and seminars, as well as organizing events related to the dissemination of culture, history and traditions of the two countries.

After establishing the Center, Herzen University plans to publish a series of books introducing the university's valuable museum collections; complete and release specialized Russian language textbooks for the field of Vietnamese tourism, as well as a number of unique textbooks on Vietnamese studies.

The Center displayed an exhibition space of paintings by Russian and Vietnamese artists called “Cultural Dialogue in the Language of Art”, where the portrait of Uncle Ho in his youth by Russian artist Tuman Zhumabaev was displayed next to sketches of Saint Petersburg by People's Artist Ngo Manh Lan.

These works “whisper about the exchange across oceans and times”, as a message to generations to continue developing Vietnam-Russia cultural cooperation.

The highlight of the Opening Ceremony was the Vietnam-Russia friendship art program, performing folk music, dry puppetry with the Swan Lake dance, Kalinka dance by Vietnamese artists, and a number of musical works performed by artists and students of the Russian State Pedagogical University named after AI Herzen.

In addition, the delegations of Vietnam, Russia, Russian and international students of the school were attracted and had a good impression with the performance, introducing the traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai costume by Designer Vu Viet Ha. The art program was like a symphony about the friendship between Vietnam and Russia that has been, is and will continue to be nurtured and strengthened by many generations of the two countries, especially the young generation today.

Herzen State Pedagogical University is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in St. Petersburg, founded in 1797, ranked 2nd among pedagogical universities in Russia, 99th in the world for training quality.

With 16 faculties (including fine arts, music, dance), 4 research institutes, the school implemented the project "Open Education Center" teaching Russian in Hanoi and Da Nang, training more than 800 students.

In 2025, the school will co-organize the Vietnamese Language and Culture Festival in Russia to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. With a long history and international orientation, including cooperation with Vietnam, the school is training 15 Vietnamese students, while 36 Russian students are studying Vietnamese, demonstrating the attractiveness of Vietnamese in the international student community, as well as the important role of Herzen University in Russia-Vietnam educational cooperation.

The opening of the Russian-Vietnamese Cultural Center at Herzen State Pedagogical University is an important event, marking the close cooperation between the two countries in the cultural field. The Center is a place for cultural, artistic, and linguistic exchanges between Russia and Vietnam, contributing to strengthening friendship and mutual understanding, and continuing to create a bridge of knowledge between Vietnam and Russia.
