Passionate about farming
Born into a farming family in Tay Hung commune, old Tien Lang district (now Chan Hung commune), Pham Van Quyen (born in 1987) was familiar with the fields since childhood. Therefore, he understands the hardships of farmers with muddy hands and feet like his parents and the people in the commune.
After graduating from high school, he chose to study electricity at the Central College of Transport 2. With good academic performance and a will to progress, he was retained by the school as a lecturer. Although he had a stable job with clean hands and feet, his love for agriculture and his concern for his homeland's land always ached in him. And the desire to do something to help farmers urged him to make a turning point in his life, which was to quit teaching and switch to clean agricultural products business, despite his family's strong objection.

In 2014, after quitting his job at school, Mr. Pham Van Quyen pooled his capital with some friends to open a clean agricultural products store on Thien Loi Street. This was a new trend, but at that time, consumers were not very interested in clean agricultural products because of the high prices. The source of quality agricultural products supplied to the store was unstable, so after a short period of operation, the store had to close. Mr. Quyen returned to the electrical profession, applying to work at VEG Vietnam Agricultural Products Joint Stock Company. Here, in addition to the assigned professional work, he observed and learned how to organize and operate the company, accumulated experience...
A few years later, he decided to return to agriculture. Pham Van Quyen shared that he felt sad when he saw the fields that used to be rice fields and honey fields abandoned. He and his friends raised capital to establish an agricultural company. But after careful research, he realized that establishing a cooperative was the appropriate model in this field.
So in 2018, Mr. Quyen returned to his hometown, gathered a number of households to establish the Nam Viet Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Cooperative with 7 members, with him as the representative director. Seeing his passion and dedication, this time his parents not only did not object but also supported, mortgaged their house and land papers to borrow money from the bank to support their son to start a business.
Get rich on your homeland

Mr. Pham Van Quyen said that initially, the cooperative gathered all the members' rice fields and ponds, about 10 hectares in Chan Hung area, to raise aquatic products and vegetables, mainly bananas - a strong crop in his hometown.
Bananas in Chan Hung are famous for their delicious, sweet flavor. The banana growing area of the whole commune is up to several hundred hectares. However, banana growing by the people is only spontaneous, without stable output. In addition to bananas, other products such as: tomatoes, corn, potatoes, onions, garlic, chili, shrimp, fish, eggs, poultry... are famous for their delicious taste but their economic value and people's income are not high because of the refrain "good harvest, low price, good price, bad harvest".

Having clearly defined the direction, he and the cooperative members actively researched and applied scientific and technical advances and high technology to production to improve the quality and value of products. Particularly for banana products, Mr. Quyen registered to participate in the "One Commune, One Product" (OCOP) Program. His cooperative is one of the first units in Hai Phong to participate in the program and the product "Nam Viet Banana" was granted a 3-star OCOP standard certificate, ensuring compliance with strict procedures from seed selection, planting, harvesting to preservation.
The cooperative actively participates in trade promotion programs to expand its market. Along with bananas and other products produced by its members, the cooperative expands production links and consumes agricultural products for many people in the region and other communes in Hai Phong to supply collective kitchens, supermarkets, and stores.
In addition to producing and consuming agricultural products, in recent years, Mr. Pham Van Quyen has implemented an ecological agricultural model, investing in AnFarm farm, which attracts tourists to visit and experience...

According to Mr. Pham Van Quyen, compared to the effort and investment costs, the profits so far are not significant, but the most gratifying thing is that he is still pursuing his passion for agriculture, domesticating abandoned lands, and getting rich on his homeland. Farmers who abandoned their fields became regular workers for the cooperative, with a stable income. More than 10 years since the turning point of leaving teaching to do agricultural business, he has never found it easy, but if he had the choice again, he would still be determined to stick with agriculture.
With his efforts and contributions to the development of cooperative economy, agriculture, and the spirit of daring to think and dare to do, Mr. Pham Van Quyen has become one of the outstanding examples in the creative youth movement, applying high technology to agricultural production, and was awarded the 16th Luong Dinh Cua Award by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in 2021. He was also awarded a certificate of merit by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) and the Chairman of the City People's Committee... Nam Viet Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Cooperative received the emulation flag of the City People's Committee, the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance and is one of 163 outstanding cooperatives nationwide awarded by the Central Farmers' Association.
Currently, on average, Nam Viet Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Cooperative consumes 2-3 tons of agricultural products per day. The average revenue is about 20 billion VND/year, creating regular jobs for dozens of workers. The cooperative is one of the few new-style cooperatives in the city that has a Party organization with 7 party members and a trade union.
