In the past 9 months, the agricultural sector of Phu Tho province has faced many difficulties due to natural disasters, floods, and epidemics. Consecutive storms, along with the complicated developments of African swine fever, have caused significant damage. However, in the midst of difficulties, the courage and decisive and timely direction of all levels and sectors have been clearly demonstrated. The agricultural sector has not only stood firm but also achieved an impressive growth rate of 3.3%, continuing to affirm its role as a solid "pillar" of the economy , especially in the post-merger context.
Instead of passively overcoming the consequences, the province has proactively implemented fundamental solutions. Disaster forecasting and warning work has been improved. Models of crop restructuring on inefficient rice fields have been replicated, helping farmers adapt better to climate change. Measures to prevent and control plant and animal diseases have been implemented synchronously and drastically, quickly localizing and suppressing epidemics, minimizing damage.
As a result, the total area of annual crops increased by 0.6%, and grain output increased by 3.2% over the same period. In particular, the productivity and output of key crops such as rice, corn, tea, and fruit trees all increased, ensuring food security and providing raw materials for the processing industry.
Cao Phong commune builds a commercial orange growing area, bringing good income to the people.
The most prominent highlight in the transformation of Phu Tho province's agriculture is the change in production thinking, from chasing quantity to focusing on quality and added value. The province is determined to orient farmers to switch to production according to safe and sustainable standards such as VietGAP, GlobalGAP, organic agriculture. The province's key products such as Doan Hung grapefruit, green tea, Hoa Binh oranges , Son Thuy longan... can confidently reach out to demanding domestic and international markets. Hundreds of OCOP products have been recognized, becoming the pride of local people.
Son Luong commune has the potential to develop My Lung Ga crow sticky rice variety.
In the livestock sector, small-scale, spontaneous livestock models are gradually being replaced by large-scale, concentrated farms that apply biosafety and organic farming processes. This not only helps to control diseases better but also creates clean, safe meat, egg, and milk products to meet the increasing demand of the market. The output of fresh meat of all kinds increased by 4.23%, eggs and fresh cow's milk also increased slightly, showing the recovery and stable development of the livestock industry.
The aquaculture sector is not out of the general trend, with output increasing by 5.7% over the same period. Intensive farming models applying high technology are being replicated, especially cage fish farming on large hydroelectric reservoirs such as Hoa Binh, opening up a direction with great potential.
The province has paid special attention to concretizing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo with many practical programs and projects. 90 science and technology tasks have been deployed, creating an increasingly close connection between the "4 houses" (State - Scientists - Farmers - Enterprises). A series of new technological processes, high-yield and high-quality plant and animal varieties have been transferred and widely applied.
Models of applying technical advances, from smart irrigation systems, greenhouses, net houses to the use of biological products (EM) in environmental treatment, have been changing the face of agriculture and rural areas. Tissue culture centers and gene conservation centers operate effectively, providing tens of thousands of disease-free, high-quality seedlings to people. The online technology and equipment exchange (VPTEX) has become an important information channel, helping farmers and businesses access the most advanced technologies.
With the advantage of forested hills, Phu Tho identified sustainable forestry development as one of the main pillars. Forest planting not only exceeded the plan (reaching 118% of the annual plan) but also had a qualitative change. The province focused on developing models of planting large timber trees with high economic value, associated with the issuance of sustainable forest management certificates (FSC), contributing to increasing the value of wood products, increasing income for forest growers, and also having great significance in protecting the environment and responding to climate change. Forests are not only "green lungs" but also a source of sustainable livelihoods, a foundation for developing ecotourism and community tourism.
In general, the picture of agriculture and forestry in Phu Tho province after 9 months is full of vitality and hope. From the challenges, the agricultural sector has found a new, more sustainable and effective direction. By harmoniously combining tradition and modernity, policy and science and technology, Phu Tho is writing a success story of a green, clean, responsible agriculture, contributing significantly to the comprehensive and sustainable development of the Ancestral Land.
