A 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V Collector Series is for sale on Bring a Trailer with 97 miles on the odometer. This was the final year of the Mark V before the line was downsized in 1980, and it was also the longest coupe ever built by Ford Motor Company, measuring over 19 feet long. The car is in near-new condition since 1979, having undergone a basic service before auction.

Collector Series of the Grand Coupe Era

With the downsizing trend underway in 1980, Lincoln introduced the Collector Series for the 1979 Continental Mark V, marking the end of the era of large personal luxury coupes. The market also moved away from “yacht-sized” two-doors as the 1980s progressed, and the Mark VI was significantly smaller.

Stock condition, 97 miles on the clock

According to the description, this car was purchased by the original owner for storage purposes. It was then passed on to the owner’s son, who continued to store it. Prior to being put up for sale, the car had just received a new service including an oil change (first time), brake system inspection and maintenance, and fuel system flush. Overall condition is considered museum quality, comparable to a new car from 1979.

Exterior details: over 19 feet long, Collector Series identification

This Continental is finished in Midnight Blue Metallic paint with a matching blue vinyl landau top. Collector Series accents include a gold-finished grille, side vents, and Collector Series badging. The car rides on 15-inch turbine-style alloy wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, and power steering.

Blue velvet cabin, true to the late 1970s

The interior is a dark blue with thick velvet upholstery, giving it the soft feel typical of American luxury cars of the late 1970s. Wood grain trim, automatic air conditioning, many electric controls and a Quadrasonic sound system with eight-track tape player create the original atmosphere of the car's new factory period.

Powertrain and transmission: 400 cu in V-8, 3-speed automatic transmission

Under the hood is a 400 cubic-inch V-8 engine, rated at 159 horsepower when new. Power is delivered through a three-speed automatic transmission, providing the leisurely handling expected of a large luxury coupe.

Maintenance after storage

The work carried out included brake servicing, fuel system flushing and oil changes. Starting from a car that had been in storage for a long time, these works ensured the car’s basic readiness while also keeping it in the best possible original condition for collectors.

Value positioning: artifacts of a period

With its extraordinary size and exceptional finish, the 1979 Continental Mark V Collector Series clearly represents the transition from the heyday of the coupe to full size and the subsequent downsizing. Although technically revised, the car is more suitable for display, collection, or study of late 1970s design and technology than for long-distance cruising.
