Coffee is the main crop of the Central Highlands and Northwest regions, and is on the list of main crops of Vietnam with an area of about 730,000 hectares, annual output reaching 1.8 million tons. The coffee industry has developed strongly since the 1980s thanks to favorable natural conditions: fertile basalt soil, suitable altitude and stable climate, helping coffee trees grow well and create a unique flavor.
The long dry season is a challenge for irrigation but helps coffee plants differentiate flower buds evenly, creating high productivity. In Buon Ma Thuot, the large temperature range between day and night helps coffee beans accumulate better aroma, which is the foundation for developing high-quality coffee for export.
The coffee industry has developed thanks to the support policies of the State since the 1980s, when coffee trees were widely planted in state-owned farms and new economic zones. Planning programs, agricultural extension, scientific research and coffee replanting helped improve productivity and quality, creating great progress for the industry.
Currently, the average yield of Vietnamese coffee is about 3 tons of beans/ha, three times higher than the world average and nearly double that of Brazil. Vietnamese coffee has been exported to more than 85 countries. In the 2024-2025 crop year, the turnover reached a record 8.4 billion USD, an increase of 55.5% compared to the previous crop year, with an export output of about 1.5 million tons. The coffee industry is currently the livelihood of more than 600,000 farming households, creating jobs for about 2 million workers, making a great contribution to the economy of the Central Highlands and the Northwest.
Update world coffee prices
On the London Stock Exchange, the online price of Robusta coffee futures for January 2026 delivery closed on November 7 at $4,664 per ton, up 2.96% ($134 per ton) from yesterday. The March 2026 futures contract increased 2.2% ($98 per ton) to $4,556 per ton.

Similarly, the price of Arabica coffee for delivery in December 2025 on the New York Stock Exchange increased by 1.85% (7.35 US cents/pound) yesterday to 404.1 US cents/pound. The contract for delivery in March 2026 increased by 1.39% (5.25 US cents/pound) to 384.3 US cents/pound.

Coffee prices fluctuated strongly last week with a clear upward trend. The reference Robusta futures price increased by 108 USD/ton, equivalent to 2.38% compared to the previous week. This is a positive signal as Vietnam's coffee harvest is in full swing, contributing to supplementing supply to the market. Arabica prices also increased more strongly, to 350 USD/ton, equivalent to 4.05%.
Coffee markets were buoyant at the end of the week as Typhoon Kalmaegi (Storm No. 13) damaged crops in Vietnam, while a new storm is forecast to make landfall. While production is safe, heavy rains and high tides could wash away soil, delay drying and impact logistics, a trader said.
According to Artis Trading, Vietnam’s coffee output in the 2025–2026 crop year is expected to increase by 9.3% compared to the previous year thanks to favorable weather and better crop care, which will help maintain a stable supply and support the market during a volatile period.
Bloomberg quoted sources from Dak Lak province as saying that Vietnam’s largest coffee producer has avoided serious damage. Mr. Trinh Duc Minh, Chairman of the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association, said the situation is not too worrying and units are still assessing the actual impact.
