When farmers “think big”

As simple farmers, attached to the fields and fields all year round, but with their will and dynamism, they have become advanced examples, contributing to the journey of building a prosperous and affectionate homeland. Each person has their own way of doing things, their own path, but they all have something in common: Creativity, daring to think, daring to do, constantly innovating to develop the economy, enriching the family and society.

From hardship to success

Not resigned to poverty, Ms. Ho Thi Doan, a Bru - Van Kieu ethnic in Coi Da village, Kim Ngan commune, boldly started a business with a production and business model associated with community tourism development, a new and creative direction, both developing the economy and preserving traditional cultural values.

The business establishment "Suoi Ban" founded by her has become a unique highlight, connecting Truong Son nature with the indigenous culture of Bru - Van Kieu. Visitors here can experience activities such as: bathing in the stream, fishing, weaving, enjoying ethnic cuisine , staying in stilt houses... Thanks to that, the model has created seasonal jobs for more than 10 local workers, bringing in revenue of nearly 300 million VND in 2024.

Not only developing the family economy, she also actively mobilizes people to participate in green - clean - beautiful tourism , preserving the landscape and cultural beauty of the village; promoting members to apply techniques in production, preserve culture associated with economic development; proactively sharing experiences with the community, contributing to spreading the spirit of self-reliance and self-reliance among farmers' union members (HVND). With such constant efforts, Ms. Doan was honored at the conference to honor typical advanced farmers in the period 2020 - 2025.

Also a living testament to the spirit of innovation in farming thinking, Mr. Truong Quoc Viet (Kim Lu 2 village, Dong Le commune) has successfully developed 1 hectare of Phuc Trach grapefruit planted in 2018 into a 17-hectare orchard. This model is supplying fruit to the market in and outside the province with a revenue of billions of VND each year.

Not keeping it to himself, Mr. Viet enthusiastically shares his experiences, supports disadvantaged households with seeds and techniques, and builds grapefruit growing areas that meet VietGAP standards, aiming to build a typical agricultural product brand for his hometown.

From Coi Da village in the middle of Truong Son mountain range to the remote Dong Le hill, Vietnamese youth like Ms. Doan and Mr. Viet are writing the journey of change every day with their will, aspiration and creativity.

“The honored Farmers’ Associations are shining examples of the spirit of daring to think, daring to do, and constantly learning to strive to become rich legitimately. They have boldly applied scientific and technological advances, digital transformation, built value chains, and connected communities - things that few people thought farmers could do before. This is not only the achievement of each individual, but also a testament to the companionship and support of farmers’ associations at all levels in promoting the movement of farmers competing in production, good business, and building new rural areas. We believe that today’s advanced examples will be important factors, contributing to spreading the spirit of innovation and creativity in Farmers’ Associations throughout the province in the coming time,” said Mr. Tran Tien Sy, Chairman of the Provincial Farmers’ Association.

From “traditional farmer” to modern farmer

Not stopping at the small-scale business mindset, many HVND have stepped out of the bamboo fences of the village, proactively linked up, and built collective production models to increase economic value and develop sustainably. Behind these effective economic models is the spirit of self-reliance, continuous learning, and strong aspirations of farmers in the integration period.

Not choosing the familiar path of rice or short-term crops, Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang, Director of Cu Nam Clean Medicinal Plant Production and Agricultural Business Cooperative (Cu Nam Cooperative), Bo Trach commune, has gone in a different direction: Developing indigenous medicinal plants on arid lands heavily affected by climate change.

In harsh weather conditions, with prolonged extreme heat in the summer and unusual floods in the rainy season, many traditional agricultural models in Quang Tri are in a precarious situation. However, at Cu Nam Cooperative, medicinal plants such as Solanum procumbens, turmeric, ginger, and black xạ... not only grow well but also produce highly medicinal essences thanks to their natural adaptation to the harsh environment. The model is a new direction for agricultural production in adverse conditions, creating a unique identity for local agricultural products.

Not stopping at the cultivation stage, Cu Nam Cooperative also invested in modern processing lines, such as a closed-loop medicinal extraction and concentration system, a solar-powered drying greenhouse, an ISO-standard workshop, and a digital production and business management system. The products of the Cooperative are traceable via QR codes, ensuring transparency and safety for consumers, thereby not only being present in supermarkets, clean food chains, and pharmacies, but also expanding on e-commerce platforms, such as: Postmart, Voso, Shopee...

In addition, the Cooperative also signed contracts with farmers, supporting seedlings, providing technical training, purchasing products at higher prices than the market, thereby contributing to creating jobs and sustainable livelihoods for dozens of households. Up to now, the Cooperative has cooperated to grow over 12 hectares with 33 local households and 8 households with sustainable harvesting in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang buffer zone, achieving an output of more than 200 tons of fresh products/year.

Today’s farmers know how to “master the fields” with knowledge, creativity and a spirit of cooperation. The advanced models in HVND have inspired, aroused confidence and aspiration to become rich legitimately in the community. It is also a vivid proof of the daily changes of an agriculture that is transforming towards modernity, greenness and sustainability, where farmers play a central role in the journey of development and change.
