Russia's precision strike

On July 17, SF reported that Russian troops attacked a concentration of Ukrainian National Guard forces in the Kharkiv region. The airstrike was carried out by Russia using Iskander-M tactical ballistic missiles.

According to Russian media, this troop concentration was detected by Russian reconnaissance aircraft. It is located near the settlement of Peresechnoye and houses soldiers of the 13th "Khartia" Brigade of the Ukrainian National Guard.

Video footage of the attack appeared in the media on July 16. The video shows Iskander-M missiles striking shortly after several buses full of soldiers appeared. The latter part of the video shows ambulances approaching the scene of the airstrike.

The Iskander-M missile has a range of nearly 500 km. It can be equipped with various conventional warheads, including cluster munitions, fuel-air-boosted explosive warheads, high-explosive fragmentation warheads, bunker-busting warheads, and electromagnetic pulse devices for anti-radar missions.

The highly maneuverable missile is guided by an inertial guidance system with GLONASS support. It can also be equipped with an optical seeker with a digital mapping area correlation system to guide the terminal.

Russia has increased production of Iskander-M missiles since launching its special military operation in Ukraine more than two years ago.

In recent months, the Russian military has begun relying more heavily on missiles to quickly strike high-value Ukrainian targets far from the front lines.

Russia makes progress in Krasny Liman

In recent days, Russian forces have been conducting offensive operations in the Makeevka village area in the direction of Krasny Liman. According to Ukrainian military sources, Russian troops have taken control of the village.

For about a year, the situation on the front line in the Krasny-Liman direction remained largely unchanged despite intense fighting. However, in recent months, the Russian army has launched attacks in multiple directions, including the Kharkiv region, forcing the Ukrainian Armed Forces to concentrate large troop reserves to reinforce defenses in specific areas. As a result, Ukrainian defenses have been weakened across the entire front. This has allowed the Russian army to make significant advances, albeit through localized attacks.

The latest significant advance by Russia in the Krasny Liman direction is the village of Makeevka, located on the banks of the Zherebets River. Russian military sources deny reports that Russian forces have taken control of the village, but claim to have gained a foothold in the east. The battle for Makeevka is still ongoing.

Controlling the village of Makeevka would allow the Russian army to gain a strategically important stronghold on the west bank of the Zherebets River, which would threaten Ukraine's defenses throughout the region.
