Terminal T2 has been in operation since 2017 and is currently the only terminal in Vietnam to achieve a 5-star Skytrax rating for consecutive years in 2024, 2025, and 2026.

The rapid increase in international passengers has led to the terminal frequently exceeding its designed capacity. In 2019, the terminal served over 7.1 million passengers, exceeding its initial design capacity of 4 million passengers per year by 79%. Passenger volumes are projected to reach 6.18 million and 6.81 million passengers in 2024 and 2025, respectively.

The expansion project is being implemented on an area of 3,600m², increasing the total usable area of the terminal to over 21,000m². Upon completion, the designed capacity will increase to 6 million passengers per year.
The highlight of the project is the architectural design, which is expanded to harmonize with the "seagull wing" imagery of the existing station. The interior space adopts a biophilic design with many green areas, utilizing natural light and ventilation to create a comfortable experience for passengers.

According to Mr. Le Quang Nam, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, the expansion project of Terminal 2 is an important step in Da Nang's strategy to develop it into a regional international tourism , service, and trade hub. In the long-term plan, Da Nang Airport and Chu Lai Airport will form an integrated aviation ecosystem, with Da Nang acting as an international gateway linked to high-quality tourism and services, while Chu Lai will develop logistics, cargo transport, and the aviation industry.
According to the plan, the project will take approximately 14 months to complete. AHT aims to finish the project by May 19, 2027, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of Terminal 2's opening.
