Construction begins on a component project of the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway.

On the morning of December 19th, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, in coordination with the Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee, held the groundbreaking ceremony for Package XL02 – the construction of the overpass on Provincial Road 8, part of Component 2, Phase 1 of the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway Investment and Construction Project.

This is an important first step, creating a "boost" to alleviate traffic congestion at the northwestern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City.

Attending the ceremony were Comrade Nguyen Van Duoc, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; leaders of departments and agencies of Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh province.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Minh, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Construction Project Management Board for Transportation Works, stated that the project is of particular importance in meeting the needs of travel and goods circulation, enhancing transport capacity on National Highway 22, and promoting socio -economic development of Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh province. The project also serves as a driving force to attract investment into industrial parks and border economic zones.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway has a total length of 51km, including 24.7km through Ho Chi Minh City and 26.3km through Tay Ninh. The route starts from Ring Road 3 (Phu Hoa Dong commune, Ho Chi Minh City) and ends at National Highway 22 (Ben Cau commune, Tay Ninh province). Phase 1 involves the construction of a complete 4-lane expressway, with a total investment of 19,617 billion VND.

Package XL02 – construction of the overpass on Provincial Road 8, is expected to be completed in Q2 2027.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Thuan, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, emphasized that upon completion, the expressway will directly connect with the Phnom Penh - Bavet expressway (Cambodia), forming an international intermodal transport axis. This is an important component in the development strategy of the Moc Bai - Ho Chi Minh City - Bien Hoa - Vung Tau economic corridor according to Resolution 24 of the Politburo .

Representatives of the joint venture between Quang Phuc Group and Trung Nam Construction and Installation Joint Stock Company pledged to mobilize maximum manpower and modern equipment, ensure technical quality, labor safety, and complete the project on schedule.

Speaking on the sidelines of the groundbreaking ceremony, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc emphasized that package XL02 is a strategic component, of importance equivalent to the main expressway route.

“This is a crucial infrastructure link, contributing to the completion of the inter-regional transport network and removing bottlenecks at the northwestern gateway of the city. When put into use, the project will directly connect with the expressway system, creating a synchronized and continuous transport axis,” said Comrade Nguyen Van Duoc.

According to Comrade Nguyen Van Duoc, the expressway, once operational, will help to effectively manage traffic flow, reduce pressure on the inner-city road system, and enhance the connection of goods transportation from industrial zones and border gates to the economic center of Ho Chi Minh City.
