Construction begins on the restoration and renovation project of the ancient Phuc Lam Pagoda.

VHO - On the morning of June 21st, in Dong Anh district (Hanoi), the project to restore and renovate the ancient Phuc Lam Pagoda officially commenced. The ancient Phuc Lam Pagoda is a special structure within the Hoa Lam Vien complex, which was once the most important royal palace under the Ly Dynasty.

The commencement of the project not only signifies the restoration of unique historical and cultural values ​​but also represents a strategic step in the development of cultural industries and spiritual tourism in Dong Anh district.

Phuc Lam Ancient Pagoda (Hoa Lam Vien), located in Du Noi village (Mai Lam commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi ), is a historical site dating back to the 11th century, associated with the event of King Ly Thai To moving the capital from Hoa Lu to Dai La.

Legend has it that after ascending the throne, the king ordered the construction of a royal palace in this area, which later became Hoa Lam Garden, to express his aspiration to build an independent and prosperous nation.

Despite enduring numerous historical changes, Phuc Lam Pagoda still preserves many traces reflecting the architectural style of the Ly Dynasty, showcasing the cultural and spiritual life and the "protecting the nation and ensuring the well-being of the people" ideology of the dynasty.

Not only is it a sacred religious space, but historians also consider it one of the important royal palaces outside the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, a testament to the nation-building process from the early days of the country's establishment.

The restoration and renovation of Phuc Lam Pagoda not only aims to preserve a part of the glorious memory of the nation's history, but also helps connect the heritage of the past with the present and the future.

According to Nguyen Thi Tam, Vice Chairman of the Dong Anh District People's Committee, this is one of the district's key projects for the 2021-2025 period. The total investment amounts to over 261 billion VND, implemented on an area of ​​approximately 2.14 hectares.

The project will restore and renovate key structures such as: the triple gate and bell tower, the main sanctuary, the ancestral temple, the left and right side buildings, etc.

Immediately after the District People's Council approved the investment plan in October 2024, the project received close attention from the city and professional input from leading scientists and archaeologists nationwide.

The assessment and selection of architectural options were carried out meticulously to ensure accuracy in the reconstruction of spaces bearing the imprint of the Ly Dynasty.

The entire project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The project to restore the ancient Phuc Lam Pagoda is an important part of Dong Anh's strategy for developing cultural and ecological tourism along the Red River.

According to the leaders of Dong Anh district, the project is not only about preserving historical memories but also contributes to creating an attractive cultural and spiritual tourism space, gradually forming a cultural industry value chain.
