Construction of emergency embankment to prevent landslides on O Mon River in Thoi Lai District commenced

(CT) - The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, together with leaders of relevant departments and offices of Thoi Lai district and Thoi Thanh commune, and the construction unit, have just come to survey and coordinate the implementation of the Order to build an emergency anti-erosion embankment on the left bank of the O Mon River, from the Rach Tra canal to the downstream of the O Mon River in Thoi Thanh commune.

The landslide area in Thoi Thanh commune (Thoi Lai district) has just been ordered to start construction of an emergency embankment to prevent landslides.

The emergency anti-erosion embankment project on the left bank of the O Mon River, from the Rach Tra canal to the downstream of the O Mon River in Thoi Thanh commune, is being built with a total length of over 490m (grade IV irrigation project), with a solid reinforced concrete embankment structure, combined with a 0.3m thick stone carpet to reinforce the anti-erosion roof, with an estimated construction cost of about 45 billion VND, invested by the Irrigation Sub-Department, under the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the city. The construction is expected to be completed before April 30, 2026.

Conducting a field survey at the construction site, Mr. Huynh Thanh Viet, Head of the City Irrigation Sub-Department, emphasized: Currently, due to the serious landslide situation in the commune, the construction unit is requested to coordinate with the local authorities to urgently implement the project to ensure strict compliance with legal regulations; mobilize and propagate households on the route to hand over the site to the contractor for smooth construction, ensuring the progress of the project; mobilize human and material resources to implement the project, ensuring completion on schedule, in order to promptly prevent, combat and overcome the consequences caused by natural disasters, urgently combat landslides on the left bank of the O Mon River; prevent and combat landslides that may continue to occur, encroaching deep into people's houses, ensuring the safety of lives and property of people and the state, ensuring traffic safety on the route...
