Awakening Can Gio tourism potential

Having traveled to Thanh An commune, Can Gio district, Ho Chi Minh City many times, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai, residing in Da Kao ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, is always surprised and impressed with the experience of agricultural tourism activities here. However, according to Ms. Mai, although tourism activities are attractive, some services, infrastructure, restaurants, hotels, etc. are still limited; some localities do not organize events regularly, and are not closely linked to events, so each time you come, you only go and return within a day. Ms. Mai's sharing is also the thought of many tourists when coming to Can Gio that we had the opportunity to talk and exchange.

Can Gio District has a 23km long coastline, a dense network of rivers and many relics and cultural heritages, which are potential for developing eco-tourism, sea tourism, resorts, agricultural tourism, community tourism, etc., becoming an attractive destination for Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the whole country in general. Promoting potential advantages, recently, the locality has reviewed the potential of each specific commune to develop typical tourism products. Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also directed departments, branches, sectors, inner-city districts, and enterprises to strengthen connections, support Can Gio to develop infrastructure, and build typical tourism products.

Recently, the City Department of Tourism has coordinated with the People's Committee of Can Gio district to announce a community tourism destination in Thieng Lieng hamlet, Thanh An commune. The destination introduces many interesting and unique activities, such as herbal foot baths, nostalgic space, salt making experience...; all of these activities are carried out by households in Thieng Lieng hamlet. Previously, the People's Committee of Can Thanh commune, Can Gio district also established a garden eco-tourism cooperative with many attractive services and entertainment: Visiting garden houses; recreational fishing; experiencing seafood catching... attracting thousands of tourists to visit and experience...

Along with developing typical tourism products, the locality has also proactively done well in surveying, planning, building infrastructure, renovating the green, clean and beautiful landscape associated with the movement of building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, "All people unite to build a cultural life in residential areas". Up to now, Can Gio has more than 96% of households meeting the standards of cultural families; 100% of hamlets and neighborhoods are recognized as cultural hamlets and neighborhoods; 38 roads and road sections meet the standards of civilized urban roads, 100% of communes meet the standards of "New Rural Culture"...

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Xuan, Vice Chairman of Can Gio District People's Committee, many people are still facing difficulties, so during the implementation process, the locality always pays attention to implementing special credit incentives to support people, and at the same time has many forms of training local human resources for destinations in communication skills, customer care, business management, cuisine, etc.

The District People's Committee also directed localities to always promote the connection, promote the potential and advantages of each collective, individual and locality to constantly create new, rich and attractive tourism products, overcome monotony, seasonality, spontaneous and fragmented development. With effective measures, from 2022 to present, Can Gio has attracted nearly 4 million tourists to visit and relax, practically improving people's lives.
