Great potential, many advantages
Ninh Binh province has an area of nearly 4,000 km2 , a population of nearly 4 million people and an important strategic position, connecting the Red River Delta with the North Central Coast. Located in the economic and tourism development corridor of the North and is the southern gateway of the capital Hanoi. The province's infrastructure and tourism services are invested in a relatively modern and synchronous manner.
Ninh Binh owns its own system of rich, diverse and unique tourism resources in the North such as: famous spiritual tourist areas such as Tam Chuc Pagoda, Bai Dinh Pagoda, Phu Giay, Tran Temple.... Especially Trang An Scenic Complex, the only mixed heritage in Vietnam and Southeast Asia up to now.
Besides, Ninh Binh has a diverse ecosystem from primeval forests, rivers, lakes, plains to the sea. Cuc Phuong National Park, Van Long Nature Reserve, Xuan Thuy National Park are all typical ecological areas of regional and global stature.
In addition, Ninh Binh province's tourism space currently stretches from the mountains, midlands, to the plains, wetland ecosystems and to coastal areas with rich potential for eco-resorts, exploration and experience. Currently, the whole province has nearly 5,000 inventoried relics, including 8 special national relics, along with 33 national intangible cultural heritages, notably the "Three Palaces Mother Goddess Worship" recognized by UNESCO.
This land is also the cultural center of the delta and coastal areas of the North with a network of traditional festivals, unique craft villages such as Nam Dinh weaving, Ninh Van stone carving, Y Yen bronze casting... Rich cuisine such as Nam Dinh beef noodle soup, Ninh Binh mountain goat, Vu Dai braised fish... and many types of folk art such as Cheo singing, Chau Van singing, Ca Tru are well preserved and developed.
Director of Ninh Binh Province Department of Tourism, Mr. Bui Van Manh affirmed: Ninh Binh Province has all the conditions of "heavenly time - favorable terrain - harmony of people" to develop tourism into a spearhead economic sector with international competitiveness, becoming the leading cultural, ecological and religious tourism center in Southeast Asia.
Cross-cutting goals
Mr. Quach The Hai, Head of Accommodation Management Department of Ninh Binh Provincial Department of Tourism said: The project to develop tourism in Ninh Binh province to 2030, with a vision to 2045, will position Ninh Binh tourism brand as a "World Cultural and Natural Heritage Tourism Destination" associated with the image and outstanding global values of Trang An Heritage, Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, Tran Temple, Giay Palace, Tam Chuc Pagoda, and Van Long Nature Reserve.
Preserve and promote the value of cultural heritage, relics and scenic spots in the province in association with the development of green tourism and sustainable tourism. In particular, promote the title of the Vietnamese Mother Goddess Worship Religion, which has been recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, and Trang An Heritage and key tourist areas of the province.
Another important thing is to reorganize the tourism territory by redefining functional areas, focusing on development associated with the central tourist urban area and towards the sea, creating four "core" value axes.
The first axis, the axis of cultural, religious and historical heritage, develops into a North-South cross-provincial axis, connecting Tran Temple, Keo Pagoda, Phu Giay, Bui Chu Church, Phat Diem Stone Church, Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, Bai Dinh Pagoda, Tam Chuc Pagoda, So Kien, and Dau Temple. This axis plays an important role in developing large-scale spiritual, cultural and festival tourism.
The second axis, the axis of natural heritage, ecology, and conservation, in addition to connecting Cuc Phuong National Park, Van Long Wetland Reserve, Con Noi, Xuan Thuy National Park, extends to Thung Nham, Ga Canal, and ecological buffer zones. This axis develops in the direction of eco-tourism, experience, environmental education, associated with biodiversity conservation and climate change response.
The third axis, the rural, community, coastal tourism axis, stretches from the sedge-salt growing area of Kim Son, Giao Thuy to the traditional craft villages of Nam Truc, Y Yen, Yen Mo, Thanh Liem, etc. This axis has great potential for developing sustainable community tourism, creating local livelihoods for people, especially in remote and coastal areas.
The fourth axis, the creative tourism axis, contemporary culture, high technology, connects heritage spaces with new creative spaces in the center of Ninh Binh, Trang An, Tam Chuc, Phu Ly and Nam Dinh. This is an opportunity to build multidisciplinary music and art festivals, innovation centers, develop night-time economy, digital tourism and experiential economic models.
Tasks and solutions
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Duc Thanh, Tourism Expert, in the coming time, Ninh Binh needs to pay more attention to and focus on the human factor in tourism development. Because, it is the indigenous people who directly preserve the culture, traditions, and beauty of cultural products and types of tourism, and they are also the ones who introduce, share, and spread those beauties to tourists.
Dr. Nguyen Thu Hanh, President of the Association of Science for Sustainable Tourism Development, Ninh Binh needs to diversify tourism products, focusing on developing tourism products with potential and strengths such as: cultural, historical, spiritual tourism products associated with heritage, relics, festivals, craft villages, sightseeing and learning about local culture, lifestyle and customs.
Focus on developing tourism products for sightseeing, exploring caves, biodiversity, countryside landscapes, sea and mountain tourism, etc. Promote the development of resort tourism, health care, combined with medical treatment, building resorts with large scale, stature and high quality.
Developing entertainment complexes, especially night entertainment products (night tours, walking streets, night food streets) in Hoa Lu ward, Nam Dinh, Phu Ly. In addition, continuing to strongly develop event tourism, MICE tourism, community-based, green and sustainable agricultural tourism.
Mr. Bui Van Manh, Director of Ninh Binh Province Department of Tourism said: To fully exploit those potentials and advantages, it is necessary to strengthen leadership and direction to raise awareness of tourism development. Plan, adjust planning and invest in tourism development in a more modern and synchronous way. Perfect mechanisms and policies to develop tourism together with cultural industry to become a key economic cluster of the province. Constantly innovate, apply science and technology, promote digital transformation in tourism development. At the same time, strengthen regional and international connections.
