The Ministry of Interior stated that there is no plan to adjust the holiday schedule, nor is there any proposal to swap working days to extend the 9-day holiday.
In a document sent to ministries, departments, and provincial People's Committees on the evening of April 10th, the Ministry of Interior stated that there has recently been information suggesting that civil servants, public employees, and workers may be granted several consecutive days off during the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day and the April 30th - May 1st holidays by swapping working days with weekly rest days.
The Ministry of Interior affirmed that the holiday schedule is implemented in accordance with the Labor Code. Accordingly, Hung Kings' Commemoration Day is a one-day holiday, and the April 30th - May 1st holidays are two days off. Between the holidays are two working days, April 28th and 29th, during which civil servants and public employees work as usual.
This is the second time the Ministry of Interior has stated that there is no plan to swap public holidays, but rather that the policy will be implemented according to the announcement from the end of 2025.

Yesterday afternoon, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor announced the results of an online survey on holiday swapping options involving over 70,000 workers. Approximately 35% of participants chose to move their compensatory holiday from April 27th to April 29th to have five consecutive days off. About 28% chose to swap to May 2nd, resulting in a six-day work week and four consecutive days off; 28% did not want to swap and preferred to keep April 27th as their holiday; and about 9% had other opinions.
The survey aimed to measure workers' desires regarding holiday swapping. By law, if a weekly day off coincides with a public holiday, workers are entitled to compensatory leave on the following workday. The Vietnam Trade Union did not officially propose a swap, but suggested a more flexible approach to harmonize legal regulations with the practical needs of workers.

This year, Hung Kings Commemoration Day (10th day of the 3rd lunar month) falls on Sunday, April 26th, so workers will have Monday, April 27th, off as a compensatory day. Those who are entitled to a two-day weekend will have three consecutive days off from April 25th to 27th, while those who have Sunday off will have two days off, April 26th and 27th.
With the April 30th - May 1st holiday, those who take the two-day weekend will have four consecutive days off from April 30th to May 3rd, while those who take Sunday off will only have two days off, April 30th and May 1st.
According to regulations, employees working on weekly days off are paid at least 200% of their regular salary; if they work on a day off that coincides with a public holiday, the minimum wage is 300%.
