The workshop was jointly organized by the Management Board of Cu Lao Cham Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve, Hoi An City Women's Union, Da Nang University of Education, and the Small Project Grant Program (SGP) - Vietnam Global Environment Facility.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen The Hung - Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee, Head of the Management Board of Cu Lao Cham Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve said that multi-sectoral linkages and cooperation between communities have promoted many community development projects in Hoi An, in which educational and community tourism play a particularly important role.
"Hoi An City acknowledges the attention and support of domestic and foreign organizations, especially the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF SGP), which have actively contributed to sustainable development through community livelihood projects and conservation models. In addition, scientists, educational institutions, universities, etc. have created more and more conditions for students to come to research and learn practical knowledge in the biosphere reserve," said Mr. Nguyen The Hung.
According to Mr. Hung, with this strength, Cu Lao Cham Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve has supported and further promoted the role of the local community, connecting the community and stakeholders to meet the needs of learning and sustainable development. Delegates attending the workshop shared many perspectives on solutions for developing community-based learning tourism models in the biosphere reserve and the Central region community tourism network; the role of schools in developing community-based learning tourism models; opportunities and challenges for the community in the process of organizing and developing this type of tourism...
The workshop is an opportunity to enhance coordination between stakeholders in organizing and operating community-based learning tourism in the coming time, while improving product quality to enhance the brand of this type of tourism.
Community learning tourism started with efforts to connect the community with the work of preserving Cu Lao Cham's sea, protecting the environment, preserving natural resources and activities towards organic and ecological farming, then spreading to Cam Thanh, Cam Kim (Hoi An City); Hoa Bac commune (Hoa Vang, Da Nang City); Ly Son, Sa Huynh (Quang Ngai)... It is estimated that the number of community learning tourists accounts for about 10 - 15% of the total number of tourists to these destinations.
