After the recent devastating flash flood, the people of Lang Nu lost their homes and had to take temporary shelter at the cultural house and relatives’ houses. In this context, the immediate construction of a temporary shelter area became extremely urgent to ensure stable housing for the households.

Since September 15, the Bao Yen district government has leveled the ground and started construction of a temporary housing area of over 2,000 square meters. Each household will be allocated 50-60 square meters of land for temporary residence while waiting for the official completion of the resettlement area. This area is less than 1 km from the old residence of the people, ensuring that the daily life of the people is not too interrupted.

The construction process is being accelerated with the hope of completion by September 22, in order to soon stabilize the lives of 25 households in Lang Nu. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Nhat, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bao Yen district, the entire foundation of the 25 apartments has been poured with concrete and the final steps will be completed in the next few days.

Support from Thien Tam Fund - Vingroup Corporation

The entire cost of building the temporary shelter, worth VND2 billion, was sponsored by the Thien Tam Fund of Vingroup Corporation. Representative of Thien Tam Fund, Mr. Ly Minh Tuan, Director of the Fund, said that the Fund quickly surveyed the damage situation in Lang Nu and provided emergency support to families whose people died and whose houses were destroyed.

Not only building temporary shelters, Thien Tam Fund also supports the establishment of bank accounts for families who lost their documents in the flood, in order to promptly transfer relief money.

“Witnessing the painful losses of the people of Lang Nu, we cannot help but be moved. Hopefully, the temporary housing area that is about to be completed will help the people overcome this difficult period soon,” Mr. Tuan shared.

In addition, Thien Tam Fund also sponsored goods and medical supplies worth 500 million VND, serving the health care work for people, mothers and children in the flood-affected areas. Vingroup Corporation also mobilized its staff to participate in relief activities, and called on the entire system to join hands to support the people.

According to the decision of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, the sim hill area near Minh Duc will be used as a new resettlement area for 40 households in Lang Nu. This area is 10 hectares wide, nearly 2km from the old residence, each household will be given about 1,000m² of land to build a house.

The resettlement area will include 40 two-storey stilt houses, designed in the traditional Tay architecture (8x12m in size), with ancillary facilities such as kitchens and toilets. The new location ensures safety against the risk of landslides and flash floods, while being convenient in terms of transportation, close to water sources and production areas.

In addition to housing, the resettlement area also has a cultural house, schools and essential infrastructure such as electricity, roads and water, helping people stabilize their lives in the long term. According to instructions from senior leaders, this project must be completed before December 31, 2024.
