Kien Giang approves policy to convert more than 22.7 hectares of forest land to other purposes

Accordingly, the People's Council of Kien Giang province has considered and decided to change the purpose of forest use to other purposes to implement 4 projects including: Project to expand the Military Command of Kien Luong district with an area of ​​2.34 hectares of protective forest; project to build the office of Phu Quoc city police (in Ong Lang hamlet, Cua Duong commune, Phu Quoc city) with an area of ​​6.03 hectares.

Project to upgrade and expand Duong Dong - Cua Can - Ganh Dau road and build a new branch connecting to the South - North axis road (Phu Quoc city) with an area of ​​6.34 hectares; project to build a barracks for the water commando battalion (combat base area) of Brigade 5/Special Forces Command in Bai Thom commune (Phu Quoc city) with an area of ​​8 hectares.

In particular, the People's Council of Kien Giang province also considered and approved the Project to classify Phu Quoc city as a type I urban area of ​​Kien Giang province and the Program for urban development of Phu Quoc city until 2040.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang province, the projects were approved by competent authorities in accordance with legal regulations; the proposed conversion locations have been removed from the forest planning, included in the list of approved land use plans; for the areas, it does not affect the forest land area according to the targets approved by the Prime Minister.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Mai Van Huynh, Standing Deputy Secretary, Chairman of the People's Council of Kien Giang province, said that the resolutions recently passed by the People's Council, especially the Resolution on classifying Phu Quoc City as a type I urban area of ​​the province and the Urban Development Program of Phu Quoc City to 2040, if well implemented, will greatly contribute to promoting the socio-economic development of the province in general, ensuring that Phu Quoc City develops comprehensively, in accordance with the planning approved by the Government in particular in the coming time.
