Organizing the traditional boat racing and rowing festival on Kien Giang river in 2025

VHO - The traditional boat racing and rowing festival on Kien Giang River in 2025 is jointly organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province. This is a cultural, sports and tourism activity that also contributes to preserving national intangible cultural heritage.

On July 8, Mr. Hoang Xuan Tan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, said: Towards the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and National Day September 2, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province issued plan No. 23 on organizing the Traditional Boat Racing and Rowing Festival on Kien Giang River in 2025 in Le Thuy commune.

Accordingly, this year's festival will take place over 3 days. Specifically, on the morning of August 30, there will be a qualifying swimming round; on the afternoon of September 1, there will be a boat parade on Kien Giang River and the festival will officially open at 7:00 a.m. on September 2 at Mui Viet area, Le Thuy commune (Quang Tri province).

The women's boats will compete in the 18km race, while the men's boats will compete in two classes, A and B, over a distance of 24km.

This year’s festival is expected to have more than 30 racing boats and swimmers from villages and communes on both banks of Kien Giang. Of these, there are expected to be 11 female racing boats and 20 male swimming boats from villages such as An Xa, Tuy Loc, Dai Phong, Loc Ha, Loc Thuong, Phu Tho , Thuong Giang, Hoang Giang, Xuan Hoi, Thach Ban, Quy Hau…

In addition, there are expected to be more boat racing and swimming in the communes of Tan My, Cam Hong, Sen Ngu, Truong Phu, Le Ninh, Kim Ngan,

It is expected that more than 30 boat teams from villages and communes will participate in the traditional swimming and boat racing festival on Kien Giang River in 2025.

Regarding implementation, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism as the standing agency to coordinate with relevant departments, branches, units and localities to organize and operate common activities at the festival.

Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee requires that the organization of the festival must ensure safety, economy, quality and efficiency. The police, military, health, traffic, construction, finance, electricity, Le Thuy commune… forces coordinate to ensure order and safety throughout the festival.

Quang Tri province will support 20 million VND for each rowing and racing boat; at the same time, support an additional 10 million VND/boat for localities participating in the women's rowing event for the first time. In addition, support 20 million VND for localities organizing commune-level boat racing festivals (with the consent of the Provincial People's Committee).

The traditional boat racing and rowing festival on Kien Giang River is not only a cultural and sporting activity, but also an opportunity to promote the image, people and tourist destinations of Le Thuy district in particular and Quang Tri province in general.

Through the festival, we contribute to spreading the spirit of solidarity, community cohesion and preserving and promoting the values of the homeland's cultural heritage; at the same time, improving the spiritual and cultural life of the people.
