
The event was organized by the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security and the Department of Political Work, assigned to Ho Guom Theater, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Russia (1950-2025); and the 185th anniversary of the birth of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840 - 2025).
In this concert, artists from the land of the White Birch brought the unique features of Russian culture and Russian people through music . Accordingly, two leading Russian opera artists, Yekaterina Sergeeva and Alexey Tikhomirov, are singers from the Mariinsky and Bolshoi Theaters - famous theaters not only in Russia but also around the world.
Together with the Saint Petersburg Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Nikolay Alexeev, the audience coming to the concert “White Night” was immersed in the colorful sound world of world-famous Russian composers including: Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov and especially Tchaikovsky, through symphonies and excerpts from classic operas and ballets.
In the special concert “White Night”, two artists Yekaterina Sergeeva and Alexey Tikhomirov performed arias and classic excerpts from famous operas by Mussorgsky and Rimsky-Korsakov, with the desire to bring a space of Russia’s “white nights” through music.
Two artists, each with their own musical personality, but in the program “White Night”, the two artists harmonized in Mussorgsky’s suite “Songs and Dances of Death” - a fierce, haunting work about the human condition.
Along with Tchaikovsky's Polonaise, Serenade or Trepak, the music night "White Night" brought the audience different perspectives on Russian music, with the artists going through every range of emotions, from romantic to tragic, from gentle to explosive, touching the imagination and emotions of the Vietnamese audience.
Artist Yekaterina Sergeeva was born and raised in St. Petersburg - the cradle of Russian academic art. She graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory, is a member of the Mariinsky Academy of Young Singers and a soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre. With her warm and powerful mezzo-soprano voice, Yekaterina has made her mark in many famous roles of Russian and international opera such as: Olga (Eugene Onegin), Marfa (Khovanshchina), Lyubasha (The Tsar's Bride), Lel (The Snow Maiden), Carmen (Carmen), Charlotte (Werther) or Nicklausse (Les Contes d'Hoffmann). She has also performed on many major stages such as: Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper, Grand Théâtre de Genève and appeared at the prestigious Glyndebourne Festival (UK)...
Artist Yekaterina Sergeeva shared that this was her first time coming to Vietnam and also her first time performing at the Hoan Kiem Theater. The artists brought intellectual Russian music and hoped that the audience would have energetic moments full of Russian culture at this concert.

Male artist Alexey Tikhomirov is a guest artist of the Bolshoi Theater. He possesses a deep and resonant bass voice, and has successfully performed many major roles in operas by Mussorgsky, Dvořák, Mozart or Gluck... He has performed in many large auditoriums, such as Geneva Opera, Monte Carlo Opera, Flemish Opera or Théâtre du Capitole (Toulouse)... Not only successful domestically, Alexey is also a familiar face at international music festivals and has collaborated with many legendary conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Vladimir Jurowski or Kent Nagano...
Artist Alexey Tikhomirov shared that this was his first time in Hanoi - the capital of Vietnam and he was very happy to perform in Vietnam. The artists wanted to convey a message that art is always the path to peace, friendship and cooperation.
The St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra is the oldest and most prestigious orchestra of the Russian Federation, and is considered by international experts to be “one of the most prestigious orchestras of the world and also the most important orchestra in the history of Russia”. The orchestra has performed many tours in the world's oldest theaters.
Artist Nikolay Alexeev - Chief Conductor of the St Petersburg Philharmonia Institute, People's Artist of the Russian Federation. He is also the winner of prestigious classical music awards such as the “Herbert von Karajan Foundation's International Competition” (West Berlin, 1982), the “V.Talich” Competition (Prague, 1985) and Min-On (Tokyo, 1985)... The conductor has toured many European countries (Germany, France, Italy, England, Belgium, the Netherlands, Finland, Slovenia, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania) and Latin America, Korea, Japan and the United States...
The special concert program “White Night - White Night in St. Petersburg” at Hoan Kiem Theater takes place on two evenings, November 1-2, 2025.
