Promoting capital from remittances
Expanding the wood workshop, trading products, and contributing to promoting the family economy is the effectiveness that Mr. Bui Doan Hao in lane 5B, Pham Phu Thu street, Hong Bang ward has taken advantage of from the remittances sent by his sister from the Netherlands.
Mr. Hao said: "Thanks to this source of money, I invested in expanding production, buying modern machinery to improve product quality, thereby expanding the market, bringing stable profits to the family. Expanding production not only created better revenue for the family but also increased the number of workers at the factory from 2 to 4 people. From this profit, the family bought more supplies, land, houses, and life improved significantly...".
Thanks to remittances from relatives, Ms. Le Thi Kim's family in Quan Nam, Le Chan ward not only improved their living conditions but also invested in a number of trade and service companies.
“Previously, I only thought about saving and depositing money. Now I am participating in business investment. If the source of money continues to be stable as it is now, my family plans to open a furniture or beverage store to promote the effectiveness of remittances,” Ms. Kim shared.
Not only focusing on production and business, many families also consider remittances as a "ticket" for their children to access global knowledge.
Ms. Vu Thi Nguyet's family in Thuy Nguyen ward has spent most of the remittances sent by relatives over the years to invest in their daughter's study abroad in Germany.
“Without this source of money, my child would definitely not be able to study abroad because the cost of studying and living in Germany is high. My child has access to a modern educational environment, learns new knowledge and skills, and has more open job opportunities, whether in Vietnam or internationally,” Ms. Nguyet shared.

The positive “redirection” of remittances in recent years stems from the fact that the domestic and city economies have continuously achieved high growth rates. The business environment is increasingly open, investment procedures are simplified, creating confidence for overseas Vietnamese when transferring capital back home.
According to the Chairman of the Overseas Vietnamese Liaison Association of the city, Le Van Quy, in addition to consumption, savings, health care, shopping, and savings, the good news is that many overseas Vietnamese relatives also invest in production and business through remittances. The abundant remittance flow not only helps stabilize the lives of relatives but also contributes to expanding production, creating jobs, and promoting sustainable economic development of the city and the country.
Continue to attract remittance resources

After the merger, there are about 130,000 Hai Phong people living in more than 50 countries and territories. Over the years, despite being affected by the pandemic and global economic fluctuations, the Hai Phong overseas Vietnamese community has always remained attached to and oriented towards their homeland, showing a sense of responsibility and deep affection for the city.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, the amount of remittances contributing to the city's development in the past 5 years is estimated at more than 1.4 billion USD. This is a huge amount of money, contributing significantly to the construction process and development as well as social security work of the city.
Over the past time, the work related to overseas Vietnamese has always been of interest to the city and implemented synchronously and effectively. Many specific policies and guidelines have created favorable conditions for the overseas Vietnamese community to stay close to and turn to their homeland, while at the same time promoting financial resources, intelligence, management experience and modern technology.
Every year, on the occasion of Lunar New Year, the city organizes a meeting with overseas Vietnamese to strengthen the relationship between overseas Vietnamese and their homeland. This is also an opportunity for city leaders to listen to the thoughts and aspirations of overseas Vietnamese, thereby encouraging and guiding them to actively participate in the socio-economic development of the city and their homeland.
At the Homeland Spring Program 2025, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Hoang Minh Cuong hoped that the Hai Phong community abroad would continue to join hands and contribute to building and developing the city within their capacity and resources; participate in supporting the city's agencies and units in organizing trade promotion conferences, connecting overseas Vietnamese businesses with city businesses.

The city hopes that the young generation of overseas Vietnamese will actively maintain the connection of the good values of the nation and contribute to the development of Hai Phong. Always ready to listen to the thoughts and aspirations of the people to further improve the effectiveness of work related to overseas Vietnamese.
Continue to direct the relevant agencies to research and make necessary recommendations to the central ministries and branches on policies directly related to the interests of the people. Strengthen connections with organizations of Hai Phong people abroad. Promote the role of the people as a bridge with international agencies, organizations and the city...
