According to information from the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), from 2025, the King's Cup will be officially recognized by FIFA as a Class A friendly tournament, within the FIFA Tier 1 ranking system. Matches in the tournament will be scored like official international friendly matches in the FIFA Days calendar, with a score coefficient of 10 (I=10).
FIFA also sets out a number of mandatory standards, such as players participating must be members of the national team, the referee team and assistant referees must have FIFA qualifications, and each match must take place at least 48 hours apart. In addition, the match results and player registration lists must be fully submitted to FIFA and AFC.
The 2025 King's Cup will feature four teams, including host Thailand, Iraq, Hong Kong (China) and Fiji. The tournament will take place from September 4 to September 7. According to the draw results, Iraq will face Hong Kong, while Thailand will face Fiji. The two winners will meet to compete for the championship, while the two losers will play for third place.
With recognition as a Class A tournament, King's Cup 2025 is not only an opportunity to test the force but also brings the opportunity to significantly improve the position on the FIFA rankings for participating teams.
The last time Vietnam participated in this tournament was in 2019. At that time, Coach Park Hang-seo and his team defeated the host team in the semi-finals but lost to Curacao in the penalty shootout in the final match to close the tournament as runners-up. This year, Vietnam refused to participate. Coach Kim Sang-sik decided not to gather the team during the FIFA Days in September to prioritize the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers with Vietnam U23.
