Cheon Sa Rang works as a receptionist at a luxury hotel and has a love-hate relationship with the chairman's son in the Korean movie "King The Land".
The film tells the story of Cheon Sa Rang - an orphan girl who dreams of working in the hotel industry. From an intern with a low degree, she strives to become an excellent employee for many years. Sa Rang encounters Gu Won many times in difficult situations, and feels bad for him because of a misunderstanding. During the process of working together at the hotel, the two begin to realize each other's good points and develop feelings.
According to Vox, as of August 18, King The Land has about 66 million views on Netflix and is still in the top 10 most popular series on this application. Although criticized for its old, predictable plot, the film still attracts attention thanks to many humorous and light situations. Sa Rang is built as a friendly, enthusiastic character while the male lead Gu Won is a person who grew up with many injuries, coldness, and lack of trust. Being with his girlfriend, he gradually changes and opens up to the people around him.
Like many Korean romance films, King The Land depicts the contrasting lives of the male and female leads. Gu Won was born into a wealthy family and easily rose to the position of head office director. He always appears with luxury cars, designer clothes, and has lavish hobbies. On the contrary, Sa Rang lives in a rented house with friends and struggles to work from morning to night. When they fall in love, the female lead lets the male lead experience many ordinary life experiences such as eating at sidewalk restaurants, going to the countryside market, and helping her aunt prepare food at a small shop.

Many details such as Gu Won picking up Sa Rang who was stuck on the mountain by helicopter, the romantic dinner in the forest, the first kiss of the two "stole the hearts" of female viewers. The two idol singers Yoona (SNSD, as Sa Rang) and Lee Junho (2PM, as Gu Won) acted naturally and well. During the broadcast, rumors of the two dating also made the work more attractive. The supporting characters such as Sang Shik's assistant - Gu Won's assistant or Sa Rang's grandmother had many humorous lines, creating laughter.
Vox commented that in addition to the sweet details, the film reflects many shortcomings in the working environment at large corporations in Korea, through the image of two close friends of Cheon Sa Rang. Pyeong Hwa is a flight attendant, facing harassment from superiors, suffering injustice when working hard for many years but not being promoted. Da Eul - the only one with a family in the group of friends - has difficulty balancing between work and taking care of her family.
In addition to many plus points such as easy-to-watch script, beautiful setting, and costumes, the film was also criticized during its broadcast due to details related to Arab culture. The film crew built the supporting character - Arab Prince Samir - as a playboy, a womanizer, and disrespectful to women. The producer had to apologize to the audience at that time, saying that it did not intentionally disrespect or distort any country's culture.
King The Land is 16 episodes long, airing from the end of June, written by Choi Rom, directed by Im Hyun Wook. Through the love story of the two main characters, the film sends a message about each person's efforts to pursue their dreams.
