Celebrating 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany

On the morning of September 24, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Federal Republic of Germany (1975-2025), marking the half-century milestone of the friendship between the Vietnamese and German peoples.

In his congratulatory speech, Mr. Nguyen Loc Ha, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, said that after half a century of establishing relations and nearly 15 years of upgrading relations to Strategic Partnership (in 2011), the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Germany has developed increasingly deeply, effectively and comprehensively, reaping successes on all pillars of cooperation. The visit to Vietnam by the German Chancellor in 2022 and the German President in 2024 has created new momentum for the relationship between the two countries, clearly demonstrating Germany's interest in Vietnam - one of the eight global partners in Germany's Development Cooperation Strategy.

Mr. Nguyen Loc Ha emphasized that Ho Chi Minh City is proud to be the location of iconic projects in the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Germany such as the German International School and the Vietnam-Germany University, which spread the German language and culture. Especially the German House - a typical German project in Southeast Asia and also a symbol of friendship between the two countries.

On the solid foundation that has been built, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to accompany and closely coordinate with the German Consulate General and German investors and businesses to promote deeper cooperation in areas such as healthcare , finance, science and technology, smart urban development, human resource training and climate change response, etc.

With the determination of leaders at all levels and the joint efforts of the people of the two countries, the leaders of the City People's Committee believe that the new chapters in the Vietnam - Germany relationship in the next 50 years will be highlighted by brilliant achievements.

Thanking the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for organizing such a meaningful celebration, Ms. Andrea Maria Suhl, Consul General of Germany in Ho Chi Minh City, said that over the past half century, the friendship and cooperation between Germany and Vietnam has made great strides. This development demonstrates the close commitment of both sides. The 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations is not only an opportunity for the two countries to look back on the past, but also a start towards a promising future.

Sharing the positive results in the relations between Germany and Vietnam in the fields of politics, diplomacy, economics, educational cooperation, health, culture, etc., the German Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City said that, looking to the future, many interesting opportunities for deeper cooperation are opening up for the two countries. In particular, the training of experts for the Ho Chi Minh City International Finance Center by the Vietnam-Germany University and German partner universities; cooperation between Becamex Group and Fraunhofer Institute on Nanoelectronic systems in the field of semiconductor technology, etc.

“Let us join hands to continue strengthening the friendship and partnership between Vietnam and Germany, for the benefit of both countries, for a peaceful and sustainable future; together towards the next 50 years of cooperation,” the German Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City emphasized.
