According to VNA correspondent in New York, at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his pleasure to meet again and congratulated Mr. David Lammy (former UK Foreign Secretary) on his new position. The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to further strengthen the Strategic Partnership with the UK; and is pleased to see the strong development of the bilateral relationship in recent times. To promote cooperation between the two countries in the coming period, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that the two sides promote delegation exchanges, especially the exchange of delegations of key leaders of the two countries in 2025, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership and discuss directions to promote the bilateral relationship to new heights.
UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy highly appreciated Vietnam's increasingly important role and position in the region and the world; expressed support for Vietnam in building a regional and international financial center; and wished to promote cooperation in the fields of migration, renewable energy, science and technology. The UK Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized that he will continue to support Vietnam in responding to climate change, especially in effectively implementing the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
The two sides also agreed to continue effectively implementing bilateral cooperation mechanisms and taking advantage of the UK's accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) to exploit the room for cooperation between the two countries.
* On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Radoslaw Sikorski.
In a friendly atmosphere, the two sides highly appreciated the development of the long-standing traditional friendship, which has undergone 75 years of development (1950-2025), and agreed that the two countries have a lot of potential and favorable opportunities to promote the relationship to a new height. Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his appreciation for Poland's valuable assistance to Vietnam in the cause of national construction and development. The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the two sides closely coordinate to fully and effectively implement the results of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official visit to Poland in January 2025; at the same time, promote high-level delegation exchanges in the coming time on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The Deputy Prime Minister also asked the Polish National Assembly to soon ratify the Vietnam - European Union Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and to have an active voice so that the European Commission can remove the IUU "yellow card" for Vietnamese seafood products.
Sharing the opinions of Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Radoslaw Sikorski affirmed that Poland always considers Vietnam an important partner in the Southeast Asian region. Mr. Radoslaw Sikorski personally had impressive and profound experiences about the country and people of Vietnam. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland proposed that the two countries continue to promote cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, labor, science - technology, education - training, tourism and people-to-people exchange. The two sides also agreed to continue to closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums, and at the same time discuss a number of international and regional issues of mutual concern.
* On the same afternoon, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son had a meeting with Chairman and CEO of Fedex Group (USA) Raj Subramaniam.
At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son congratulated Fedex Group on its effective business operations in Vietnam; highly appreciated Fedex's contribution to the process of normalizing and developing relations between the two countries, especially in the year of the 30th anniversary of normalization of relations and the 2nd anniversary of upgrading relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the United States is one of Vietnam's leading important partners and the two governments are actively cooperating to maintain momentum and promote new cooperation opportunities in all areas of cooperation; the Party and State of Vietnam pay great attention and create the most favorable conditions for domestic and foreign enterprises, including US enterprises, to invest and do business effectively and sustainably in Vietnam.
Chairman and CEO of Fedex Group Raj Subramaniam thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for taking the time to receive him and welcomed the directives of the Vietnamese senior leaders on improving the investment and business environment, as well as the active and effective support of ministries and branches for US businesses; highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development strategy, especially science and technology development, innovation, infrastructure and airport development. The leaders of Fedex Group welcomed and highly appreciated the fact that the Vietnamese and US governments have handled trade issues well in the past time, thereby businesses of the two countries can be assured of a sustainable trade framework for cooperation and investment, business, bringing practical benefits to the people and businesses of the two countries. On that basis, Fedex Group is promoting plans to expand operations in Vietnam and hopes that Vietnamese government agencies will facilitate this process.
