(HNMO) - On the afternoon of June 3, the second tournament of the Hanoi International Grandmaster Chess Tournament 2023, organized by the Vietnam Chess Federation in coordination with the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports , ended at the Hanoi Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Center.
At the second tournament, player Dao Minh Nhat won the International Grandmaster tournament; player Wynn Zaw Htunn (Myanmar) won the International Master tournament; player Doan The Duc won the FIDE Master tournament.
With the achievements in the second tournament, Hai Phong player Dao Minh Nhat achieved the first International Grandmaster standard; Hanoi player Bang Gia Huy and Soham Kamotra (India) achieved the International Master standard. For 14-year-old player Bang Gia Huy, this is also the first International Master standard.
Thus, closing two tournaments of the Hanoi International Grandmaster Chess Tournament 2023, there were 3 players achieving the International Grandmaster and International Master standards. In addition, some Vietnamese players also increased their international elo coefficients, the most impressive of which was Bang Gia Huy with 200 elo points to reach elo 2425 in July 2023, rising to 5th place in the group of Vietnamese players with the most international elo coefficients on the ranking announced in early July 2023.
Chess player Dao Minh Nhat increased his coefficient by 63 points to reach elo 2412 in July 2023. In addition, more than a dozen other Vietnamese players also increased their international elo coefficient through their achievements in the two tournaments. Among them are: Vo Hoang Quan increased by 154 points, Nguyen Manh Duc by 100 points, Lai Duc Minh, 114 points, Nguyen Le Cam Hien by 82 points, Nguyen Nam Kiet by 60 points, Nguyen Hoang Khanh by 121 points. This is considered a successful competition for many Vietnamese players.
Two tournaments for International Grandmaster, International Master, FIDE Master standards, and the Vietnam - Singapore international elo coefficient exchange tournament under the Hanoi 2023 International Grandmaster Chess Tournament system gathered 42 players from Singapore (8 players), India (4 players), England (1 player), Russia (competing under the name of the World Chess Federation - FIDE, 2 players), Bangladesh (2 players), Australia (1 player), Indonesia (1 player), Myanmar (1 player), Philippines (1 player) and host Vietnam with 20 players.
In addition, 8 referees were internationally qualified for Vietnamese chess from two tournaments under the Hanoi Open International Chess Tournament 2023 system. At the tournament, the Vietnamese chess team also played a friendly match with the Singapore chess team and won 24-8 in the first round and 20-12 in the second round.
