Youthful memories return in "Capital Alumni Gala"

Professional and non-professional artists in their 60s and 70s contributed their voices to the 2025 Capital Alumni Gala held on the evening of April 12 at the outdoor stage of the University of General Sciences (now the University of Science - Vietnam National University, Hanoi), creating an emotional performance for the audience.

The program not only achieved professional quality but also brought sweet and beautiful memories to the artists and audience, when they relived the vibrant student art atmosphere of many years ago.

The 2nd "Capital Alumni Gala" - 2025, organized by My Thanh Advertising and Entertainment Company, is an artistic playground for generations of Vietnamese students of all periods to relive their vibrant memories with a burning love for music. The program brings together more than 100 professional and non-professional artists such as: People's Artist Thanh Lam, musician Quoc Trung, singers Bang Kieu, Thuy Dung, Thanh Tam, Thao Van, Dinh Lan Huong, Lien Trinh, ABBA Vietnam group, and bands: Phuong Dong, Thoi Gian, Ngua Hoang, Chia Khoa Vang, Purple Blues...

Famous songs by Vietnamese and international bands from the 1970s to 1990s such as ABBA, Modern Talking, Pink Floyd, Scorpions, Bon Jovi, Queen, Buc Tuong, Phuong Dong... were performed one after another. Pop, Rock, and even Heavy Metal genres performed by bands originating from the capital's student movement, along with professional artists, brought the audience back to a vibrant student time.

Many audiences in their 60s and 50s – some of whom have become grandparents – still "swing" along to familiar melodies passionately. Under the pouring rain, many middle-aged audiences lived their lives to the fullest with the melodies of youth. Many stood in the rain, swaying to the music in the schoolyard, letting their souls drift back to the past – when they were students 20-30 years ago, with the spirit: "The rain wets our shirts and pants, but it cannot wet our spirits".

Classic international songs associated with the student generation of the 1990s-2000s such as “Hotel California”, “We Are the Champions”, “Take On Me”, “It's My Life”, “Cheri Lady”, “You're My Heart, You're My Soul”, “One Moment in Time”, “Everlasting Love”, “True Colors”, “Everything I Do (I Do It for You)”, “Mamma Mia!”... are like a memory train bringing former students of the Capital back to the beautiful years.

In addition, classic Vietnamese songs that made many artists famous were also performed again, such as Meritorious Artist Thanh Tam with "Trieu doa hong", singer Thuy Dung with "Khoan khac", MC Thao Van performed "Thanh pho tinh yeu va noi nho"...

The surprise performance at the end of the program was a collaboration between Phuong Dong band, Thanh Lam and Quoc Trung through the songs "Another Day in Paradise", "True Colors"... Bang Kieu - a member of the Golden Key band - brought the medley "Late Summer - Rain" with musician Tuan Nghia. The program ended with the song "We are the world" with the participation of all the artists, leaving an unforgettable echo in the hearts of the audience.

According to MC Dinh Tien Dung, this year's Capital Alumni Gala has more than 50 performances with the participation of 108 artists. In the audience area, many people recognized famous artists such as actress Kim Oanh, actor - model Tran Hoang Xuan, People's Artist Tran Ly Ly (former Director of the Department of Performing Arts), MC Thanh Huong, My Lan, Phi Linh...

The show lasted more than 6 hours in the pouring rain but attracted nearly 3,000 people to attend and "burn" themselves out with music. Many artists and audiences came not only because of their love for music but also because of the beautiful memories of their youth. The show not only created an attractive music stage but also a place for anyone who came to meet their youth again, have fun with friends, recall old memories and remember a time of youth full of enthusiasm and ambition.
