According to Mr. Nguyen Hoang Phuc, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Lam Dong province currently has 337 durian growing area codes for export. Of these, Zone 1 (formerly Lam Dong province) has 197 durian growing area codes covering over 8,000 hectares and 37 packaging facilities with factory sizes exceeding 61,000 m² serving exports; Zone 2 (formerly Binh Thuan province) has 26 durian growing area codes covering over 1,300 hectares and 12 packaging facilities with factory sizes exceeding 67,000 m²; Zone 3 (formerly Dak Nong province) has 114 durian growing area codes covering over 3,700 hectares and 4 packaging facilities with factory sizes exceeding 5,000 m² .
The work of monitoring the codes of growing areas and packaging facilities for durian for export in the province is of interest and seriously implemented by the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Phuc, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, affirmed.
Specifically, from the beginning of the year until now, the Crop Production and Plant Protection Sub-Department under the Department of Agriculture and Environment has collected 234 durian samples for analysis of pesticide residues, heavy metals Cd and Pb, and pest identification (mealybugs). The results showed that 4 out of 78 samples were contaminated with lead, however, none exceeded the limit; 6 out of 78 growing areas were contaminated with cadmium, of which 1 sample exceeded the limit (0.074/0.05 mg/kg). The Sub-Department has issued a directive to the owners of the growing areas to investigate the cause of the contamination, implement remedial measures, and report back to the Crop Production and Plant Protection Sub-Department. The pest identification results also showed that 6 out of 78 samples were contaminated with pests.

Immediately after receiving the analysis results, the Sub-Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection issued a document to the growing areas contaminated with heavy metals and pests; simultaneously, it requested the strict implementation of measures to ensure compliance with the regulations of the importing country and Vietnam, continued dissemination of information to ensure that all participating households in the growing area understand and comply; strengthened strict control of fertilizers and pesticides used in the growing areas, ensuring they are on the list of permitted pesticides in Vietnam; application according to the "four correct principles" and ensuring the required waiting period before harvesting. Fertilizers containing cadmium and lead should not be used.
