The Huong Tra road, leading from Phan Chau Trinh street to Vuon Cua - the venue for the "Tam Ky - Sưa Flower Season 2024" festival - was completely packed on the opening night.

"Never before has Huong Tra been so crowded; there's no room to squeeze in. This is probably the most crowded festival ever," shared Mr. Van Duc, a resident of Huong Tra village (Hoa Huong).

But it wasn't just the spectacular opening night and the effect of the "Miss Vietnam Modern Era Season 2" competition with 42 contestants and the famous singer Ngoc Son; during the three main days of the festival, most event venues were always crowded with attendees.

According to Tran Trung Hau, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Ky City, with many unique cultural, sports , and tourism activities, the "Tam Ky - Sưa Flower Season 2024" festival offers visitors many unforgettable experiences.

The city government and people in general, and Hoa Huong ward in particular, have been, are, and will continue to work together to build Huong Tra eco-village into an attractive tourist destination, associated with the brand "Tam Ky - City of Golden Sưa Flowers".

At the same time, strengthen conservation and development efforts following the "Village in the City" trend so that tourists from all over the country can learn about and visit these villages for unique experiences.

The "Tam Ky - Sưa Flower Season 2024" festival attracted the attention and attendance of many provincial leaders. At the opening ceremony, Mr. Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, was present. Mr. Le Van Dung, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation, attended the ceremony to announce the decision and receive the certificate recognizing the cluster of nine sưa trees in Huong Tra village as "Vietnamese Heritage Trees." This is considered an encouragement and motivation for the government and people of Tam Ky in promoting the festival.

Defined as a green festival, preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, "Tam Ky - The Season of Sưa Flowers" always brings many emotions to viewers through activities such as the Ao Dai festival, Bài Chòi singing, and the art of Vietnamese calligraphy.

In addition, this year visitors will also have the opportunity to experience the vibrant atmosphere of the traditional boat racing festival on the Tam Ky River or the tranquil ambiance of the intellectual chess game at the historical site of Huong Tra village communal house.

Some local traditional crafts such as Hong Lu blacksmithing, making banh tet, banh chap, banh trang, and banh xeo also attract many tourists to experience them.

Green tourism

Through more than 20 activities in the Huong Tra ecological village, "Tam Ky - The 2024 Sưa Flower Season" is a continuation of the previous 7 festivals, aiming to introduce and promote the image of Tam Ky's land and people, serving the needs of tourists and visitors from all over the world who want to immerse themselves in nature.

One of the highlights of this year's festival is the ceremony to receive the certificate recognizing the cluster of 9 Indian Sandalwood trees in Huong Tra village (commonly known locally as Dalbergia tonkinensis) as Vietnamese Heritage Trees.

The tree retains its familiar shape and shade, having provided shade for hundreds of years, but at the 2024 festival, many people could be seen admiring and taking commemorative photos with the heritage tree.

Mr. Nguyen Quang An, a resident of Huong Tra village, expressed his great honor for the local people that the village's nine ancient Dalbergia tonkinensis trees have been recognized as "Vietnamese Heritage Trees".

"The more honored and proud each person in Huong Tra feels, the more they recall their ancestors from the time of King Le Thanh Tong, who expanded the territory and chose Huong Tra as the place to settle."

"The ancestors of Huong Tra village chose the resilient, easy-to-grow Dalbergia tonkinensis tree to plant along the banks of the Tam Ky River to protect lives and property during the rainy season, shielding them from strong winds and storms. The festival is a source of happiness for the people of Huong Tra," Mr. An said.

Sharing his joy and commending the efforts of Tam Ky City in organizing the festival, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Quang Buu stated that "Tam Ky - The Season of Sưa Flowers" is an opportunity for Tam Ky tourism to develop, making an important contribution to the effective, rapid, and sustainable socio-economic recovery and development of the province and city.

In the coming period, Tam Ky needs to focus on building a green, friendly, and safe tourism environment; maximizing its potential and advantages, promoting development linkages, and making Tam Ky the tourism hub of the southern part of the province.

Unfortunately, after three main days of the festival, the crape myrtle trees along the Tam Ky River haven't bloomed yet, preventing visitors from afar from admiring them. But the festival continues, and the cool, tranquil Huong Tra eco-tourism village is always ready to welcome visitors. The heritage trees – the ancient crape myrtle trees of Huong Tra village – are budding profusely and will surely burst into bloom soon…
