TPO – For a long time, flower growing in Tien Du commune, Phu Ninh district, Phu Tho province has been considered an effective main occupation, bringing a prosperous and sustainable spring to the people of the flower village.
These days, farmers in Thuong village, Tien Du commune, are busy all day in their flower gardens, from lighting up, growing, and caring for chrysanthemums to preparing for the 2025 Lunar New Year. Tien Du commune has nearly 30 households growing flowers.
Ms. Le Thi Nam (60 years old), a farmer with more than 20 years of experience in growing flowers in Thuong village, said that the flower growing profession has been around since the year 2000. At first, only a few households grew flowers to sell at the market during Tet. Later, seeing that the profession could bring in high income, flower growing became more concentrated and systematic.
My family has about 3 sao of chrysanthemum fields, often intercropping all year round. To prepare for the Lunar New Year 2025, my family will grow about 20,000 chrysanthemums to supply the market," Ms. Nam added.

Next to Mrs. Nam’s flower garden, Mr. Dang Xuan Huy said that in the past, people grew many different types of flowers such as roses, lilies, chrysanthemums, etc. However, due to the soil, varieties and techniques of caring for lilies and roses, it was more difficult than chrysanthemums; the economic efficiency was not high. Therefore, flower growers all switched to growing chrysanthemums: diamond chrysanthemums, long petals, purple petals.
According to Mr. Huy, people also actively participate in training courses on science and technology, so flower growing models are increasingly developing. Here, the end of the year is always the busiest time for people. Because growing flowers is not only a livelihood, but also a joy and passion for those who create beauty. After a time of meticulously planting, caring for, pruning and watering their "children", the Tet season is when growers receive the fruits of their labor.
It is estimated that on the occasion of Lunar New Year 2025, Tien Du flower village will supply the market with about 200,000 chrysanthemums of all kinds. |
In recent years, partly due to climate change and partly due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the quality of chrysanthemums and their selling prices have been affected and unstable. However, farmers are still diligent, not abandoning their fields or their jobs. As Mr. Huy said, if you stick with and work hard on your hometown's fields, even if you can't get rich quickly, the economy will develop sustainably and your life will be stable.
According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Chat - Vice Chairman of Tien Du Commune People's Committee, the flower growing craft village started in 2001 and has been around for more than 20 years. Initially, there were only 1 or 2 households growing and selling flowers at the market. Realizing that flower growing brings higher economic value than other vegetables, the people of Thuong village planted more concentratedly and systematically. Up to now, chrysanthemum is still the main crop in agricultural production in Thuong village.
According to Mr. Chat, the commune currently has a plan to plan and expand the flower growing area, focusing on converting flower varieties, planting other types of flowers such as lilies, roses, etc. to supplement knowledge for people, and invest in infrastructure for the development of craft villages.
