Inspired by the "real people, real events" storytelling model that has been spreading strongly in recent times and especially attracting young people, "Humans of Tourism" was born to honor the silent people behind the brilliant picture of Vietnam's tourism industry. Through that, the program hopes to portray a multi-dimensional, authentic and inspiring portrait of those who have, are and will contribute to creating the identity of Vietnamese tourism.

The program is expected to have 2 episodes per month, not only live discussions but also including various types such as long-term podcasts, short videos , images and in-depth articles on media channels, social networks...

According to Ms. Lo Kim Tuyen, representative of the Organizing Committee, each season of “Humans of Tourism” will bring a different perspective on human resources in the tourism industry, from tour guides, tour operators, hotel-restaurant staff, drivers, captains, chefs, to entrepreneurs in the industry.

The 9x Thai ethnic girl from Dien Bien province had the idea to found the program after more than 10 years working in tourism, holding many different positions, including managing the Tada Tours project - a famous Northwest cultural experience tour.

At the first talk show with the theme "The story of the tour guide profession", 3 separate perspectives from experts in the tourism industry showed a common point: sincerity is not only a valuable quality but also a vital foundation for professionals to go far.

Dr. Trinh Le Anh, lecturer at the Faculty of Tourism, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), who has accompanied many generations of students, is always concerned with the question: How can young people not only choose tourism as a "temporary solution", but also truly consider this a career worthy of effort and long-term commitment?

He shared: “The tour guide profession is still a freelance profession, as most of the tour guides today are not under the permanent payroll of any travel company. They are like 'free birds in the sky', flying among groups of tourists, on journeys, and also carrying many stories within themselves."

Young audiences interested in tour guide jobs asked questions at the event.

However, this speaker also emphasized that this freedom also reflects the reality that the tour guide profession currently lacks a "golden hoop" - that is, a lack of professional standards that are clear and uniformly applied. Although the management agency has issued standards such as requiring a college degree or higher, and recently expecting foreign language proficiency... in reality, these requirements have not really been applied as binding standards throughout the industry.

The situation of "underground" tour guides, substandard tour guides, or guides lacking professional skills and ethics... still occurs sometimes, causing public discontent and negatively affecting the image of Vietnamese tourism.

According to Ms. Pham Thi Ha Thu, representative of Red Coral Travel, tour guides who want to be trusted by travel companies for long-term cooperation not only need to be good at their profession, but more importantly, they need to be meticulous, sincere, and willing to give before asking for anything in return. From a business perspective, in addition to business strategy, it is necessary to focus on building and nurturing a team of tour guides - the people who directly create experiences for customers and maintain the reputation of the brand.

Guides share personal stories and motivations for their careers.

Speaker Nguyen The Anh (Brian), a tour guide with nearly 20 years of experience and highly appreciated by many domestic and foreign groups, frankly mentioned issues such as the income of tour guides is not commensurate with the effort, currently the average is 500-700 thousand VND/day, despite working with high intensity and regardless of working hours. The tour guide profession requires health, so young people have an advantage, but many young people have to quit the profession after only a few years because they cannot make a living...

Professional tour guides are also "practical" teachers of many young employees who believe that "treat customers as your own family members". This is not an empty slogan, but truly respecting customers means respecting yourself as well as your partners.

Representing the group of young tour guides, speaker Nguyen Van Hai (Harry) shared his own stories of stumbling and difficulties when he first started his career, but also affirmed that if tour guides have passion, responsibility, and constantly learn, they will progress very quickly and be sought after by travel companies.

He also appreciated the program for creating an open forum for each professional to be listened to, respected and to arouse pride in the job they have chosen to pursue and stick with.

Grasping the tastes of modern audiences and also to spread content values widely, "Humans of Tourism" will be released on popular digital platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Spotify. After the tour guide's story, there will be episodes about back-office work (operation, tour sales, ticket booking...), stories about human resources in the accommodation industry, stories about transporters, culinary culture storytelling (chefs, bartenders...), stories about tourism start-up dreams.

The creators hope that this series of programs will contribute to connecting people passionate about tourism from all over the country, creating a community where every voice is valuable – whether it is an experienced tour guide, a little-known backstage staff, or a young person starting over.

With the spirit of innovation, the program encourages initiatives and practical experiences, bringing sustainable values to tourism in the new era with many opportunities and challenges.
