Ha Tinh leaders learn about climate change adaptation projects in Europe

Ha Tinh wishes to maintain and promote the good relationship with AFD to continue investing in climate change adaptation projects, contributing to increasing resources for infrastructure construction.

A delegation from Ha Tinh province recently had a trip to learn from experts in the fields of sanitation, drainage, wastewater treatment, river embankments and adaptive urban planning projects in Paris (France) and Brussels (Belgium).

Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Linh, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Internal Affairs Committee Nguyen Dinh Hai, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Tran Van Ky, leaders of provincial departments and branches, leaders of Thach Ha and Huong Khe districts participated in the working delegation.

From December 14 to 21, the provincial delegation learned experience in Europe.

Implementing the capacity building program for sub-projects under the international consulting contract for technical assistance and capacity building within the framework of the project "Improving urban infrastructure to minimize the impact of climate change in 4 coastal provinces of North Central Vietnam" funded by the French Development Agency, the delegation of Ha Tinh province is on a study tour in France and Belgium.

The delegation visited the Paris Sewer Museum; the stormwater management system through nature-based solutions and landscapes; learned about the wastewater treatment plant in Clichy - Paris; visited the riverbanks of urban areas adapting to climate change, beautifying the landscape and soft transport along with other infrastructure in Paris and Brussels. These are typical projects in the host countries.

Through the study trip, the delegation of officials and leaders of Ha Tinh approached and learned new models in building, managing and treating wastewater, most of which have not been tested in Vietnam.

Through that, the delegation had a comprehensive and detailed view of how to build underground wastewater treatment infrastructure as well as how to manage and operate it, thereby applying it to build a wastewater collection and treatment system at sub-projects in Thach Ha and Huong Khe as well as Ha Tinh province in the future.

In addition, the landscape and nature-based solutions in Brussels city in dealing with the stormwater system are highly practical and environmentally friendly models, helping the Ha Tinh delegation accumulate certain experiences in building climate change-adaptive and environmentally friendly infrastructure.

On this occasion, the delegation had a working session with the French Development Agency (AFD) in Paris. Ms. Julie Marsaudon - Deputy General Director of AFD and her colleagues received and worked with the delegation. Here, the provincial leaders affirmed that in the past time, Ha Tinh has received very active support from AFD in promoting the implementation of projects. Ha Tinh wishes to maintain and promote the good relationship with AFD to continue investing in projects adapting to climate change, contributing to increasing resources for infrastructure construction.

The delegation also worked with AFD on projects funded by this agency in Thach Ha and Huong Khe districts; and continued to propose the project on Sustainable Development of Central Coastal Urban Areas towards green growth and climate change response in Ky Anh town (AFD loan).

Working with the delegation, Ms. Julie Marsaudon - Deputy General Director of AFD acknowledged the province's proposals, agreed to start construction of projects in Thach Ha and Huong Khe in January 2024 and AFD will soon send a delegation to continue working with Ha Tinh on the project in Ky Anh town.
