If operating at full capacity, the tissue culture room of the provincial Agricultural Seed Center can produce up to millions of seedlings per year. Since mid-year, the gene for resistance to Panama yellowing has been successfully transferred here. With a strict process, all equipment is sterilized and guaranteed to be sterile, helping to create disease-free and high-quality banana seedlings.
The tissue culture room of the Provincial Agricultural Seed Center has the capacity to produce up to millions of seedlings per year.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thin, an officer of the Tissue Culture Department, Provincial Agricultural Seed Center said: “When the Institute transfers the seeds, we proceed with the transfer, taking about 25 - 30 days to complete a batch. Each batch produces enough to supply the ordered quantity. After 3 times, the plants will be taken to the garden for planting.”
The process of producing a banana seedling that meets the standards for export lasts 6 months, including many stages: successful gene transfer, cloning, transferring the seedling to the pot, bringing it to the nursery, training the plant and delivering the seed to the grower. Therefore, planning for planting and ordering seed production is very necessary. The Provincial Agricultural Seed Center will apply 2 forms of seed production to serve farmers effectively.
The process of producing a banana tree that meets export standards lasts 6 months and includes many stages.
Mr. Ha Van Quang, Director of the Provincial Agricultural Seed Center said: “There are two forms, the first is that we will plant here, the second is that we will coordinate with the others to plant. It depends on the quantity of orders. After 2 months of training the plants, we will provide seeds for the orders, ensuring quality and quantity”.
Four models of banana cultivation resistant to Panama yellowing disease have been successfully tested in infected banana areas. The test results show that the infection rate is only 1% - 3%, providing a solid foundation for households to confidently restore and develop the province's commercial banana areas.
According to calculations, the price of each banana seedling ranges from 12,000 - 15,000 VND.
Mr. Ly Van Thanh, Head of Nam Tang Village, Ban Cam Commune, Bao Thang District added: "Some households in the village also intend to contact us this year to get seeds for planting. We will register with the households."
According to calculations, the price of each banana seedling ranges from 12,000 to 15,000 VND, equivalent to the price of banana tissue culture currently purchased by farmers from production groups. Importantly, producing seeds right in the province helps farmers control quality, ensure clear origin, get warranty and increase the possibility of successful banana cultivation.
