Summer Volunteer Campaign: Spreading Love, Connecting the Community

Warm humanitarian work

The dinner on July 20 at the home of martyr Thieu Thi Thanh's mother (Son Thach area, Quang Hanh ward) was warmer and more bustling than usual because of the presence of union members and young people in the ward. In the small kitchen, the female union members divided the work among themselves: some picked vegetables, some steamed sticky rice, some cooked, arranged flowers, and set up the food trays... In the yard and alley, the male union members took the opportunity to clean up, trim trees, and clear the fence. The green shirts lit up Mrs. Thanh's small house.

After more than an hour, the offering was placed on the altar, where there was a portrait of martyr Hoang Minh Duc, Ms. Thanh's son. Unable to hide her emotions, Ms. Thanh shared: Although it was simple, the children helped me feel warmer, lessening the pain of missing my son during the days of July.

In many places, "Warm and loving reunion meals" like the one at the family of martyr Thieu Thi Thanh's mother were also organized by union members and youth. Typically, in Mong Cai 1 ward, the ward's Youth Union also prepared a simple meal for veteran Le Thanh Dam. Along with deep affection and gratitude, union members and youth were told stories about a difficult wartime. Thereby, further engrave the tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source", be grateful for the blood sacrifices of previous generations, promote patriotism and national pride.

Mr. Nguyen The Muoi, Secretary of the Youth Union of Mong Cai 1 Ward, said: In addition to the "Reunion Meal", during the month of Gratitude, the Youth Union of the ward also organized the project "Coloring memories", presenting restored portraits of martyrs Bui Van Luong and Hoang Thi Hong Chiem to their relatives. At the same time, organizing activities to clean up the environment at the historical site where the first Party cell was established, the Stele House marking Uncle Ho's visit to Tra Co; the historical site of Tran Phu hill, the memorial house of Heroic Martyr Dao Phuc Loc; memorials and martyr cemeteries in the area... These activities not only show deep feelings and gratitude, but also educate patriotism, multiply the desire to contribute in each member and youth of Mong Cai 1 Ward to contribute to building the homeland and the country.

In Hiep Hoa ward, the Youth Union and the Ward Police organized activities to support the construction of a house for Mr. Dinh Van Tu's family (Song Khoai 2 area), whose roof was blown off and damaged due to the impact of storm No. 3 in 2024. Accordingly, the Youth Union members, youth and officers and soldiers of the Ward Police participated in dismantling the damaged part, transporting materials, re-roofing, completing the frame of the house, contributing to speeding up the construction progress, helping Mr. Tu's family to stabilize their lives soon. This is a meaningful activity, demonstrating the spirit of "youth for the community", spreading the love and responsibility of young people in the construction of new rural areas, contributing to ensuring social security in the locality.

As for the members, youth and students of Ha Long University, this July is also a brilliant "Green Summer" with many meaningful activities for the community. Hoang Bich Ngoc, Head of the Volunteer Student Club of Ha Long University, said: The "Green Summer" volunteer program was organized by the Club from July 28 to August 1 in Quang La commune. Within the framework of the program, members and youth in the Club will support local authorities in guiding people to carry out administrative procedures; clean up the environment; visit and give school supplies to children in difficult circumstances; support families to repair their houses after the storm and organize summer activities, teach life skills to children...

Along with the volunteer activities of university and college students, union members and youth in residential areas throughout the province all participated in the "Green Summer" campaign with many meaningful tasks, such as cleaning inter-village and inter-hamlet roads; planting trees; propagating to raise awareness of environmental protection; giving gifts to children in difficult circumstances; organizing summer activities, providing knowledge, training swimming skills and preventing drowning and injuries for children; examining, providing medicine, giving gifts to policy families, lonely elderly people in the area and activities towards the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day... with over 3,500 union members and youth participating.

Promoting youth and volunteering for the community

According to Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union Nguyen Phuong Thao, the "Youth Volunteer" campaign is an annual summer activity to promote the spirit of volunteering for the community, creating a training environment for young people to contribute and mature. The 2025 campaign was launched at the end of May at Hai Ha Seaport Industrial Park. Here, the Provincial Youth Union launched in a bustling, exciting atmosphere and attracted a large number of union members and young people to participate.

At the launching program, many meaningful tasks were carried out with a total cost of 1.45 billion VND. Accordingly, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association, the Provincial Youth Union and accompanying units donated more than 1 billion VND to repair the flagpole of Tran Island (Co To special zone) after the impact of storm No. 3 in 2024. The Provincial Youth Union and units also donated funds to support the construction of charity houses for 2 families of young workers in difficult circumstances with a total value of 160 million VND; awarded 100 online English scholarships to students worth 160 million VND; 30 gifts for young workers in difficult circumstances; 20 gifts, bicycles and scholarships for children of young workers overcoming difficulties.

As of mid-July, the whole province has effectively implemented 1 program and 4 component campaigns, including: "Supporting exam season", "Green summer", "Red phoenix flower", "Green march" and "Pink holiday", with more than 25,700 union members and youths participating. Nearly 200 youth projects and tasks were deployed simultaneously throughout communes, wards and special zones, with a total value of mobilizing social resources of up to billions of VND.

In particular, in the campaign "Supporting the exam season", the whole province has established 40 volunteer teams with more than 1,500 union members, youths and students to support at the 10th grade entrance exam sites and national high school graduation. Hundreds of free meals, volunteer motorbike taxis, support for exam registration procedures, reception, guidance for candidates... have been implemented methodically, humanely and effectively. Nearly 250 million VND has been mobilized to take care of the candidates.

The "Green March" campaign was deployed by the youth of the armed forces with 102 formations and over 3,500 soldiers volunteering for community life, defending the Fatherland in border and island areas. In the "Red Flamboyant" campaign, over 10,000 high school students actively participated in cleaning the environment, supporting public services, visiting Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, organizing summer activities, teaching English to children...

In addition, the youth of the whole province have also promoted the spirit of volunteering, participating in contributing working days and mobilizing funds to repair 4.8km of rural roads; dredging and clearing more than 10km of drainage ditches and canals in the fields; inaugurating 17 new entertainment areas; lighting up 1.8km of rural roads with solar lights; planting 9 new rural flower roads; planting over 10,000 trees and renovating public areas, offices, schools; organizing more than 150 general cleaning sessions of campuses, village roads, and neighborhoods with the participation of 1,500 union members and youth.

Notably, since July 1, 2025, when implementing the 2-level local government model, the whole province has established 55 permanent youth volunteer teams with more than 1,200 union members and young people supporting at the Public Administration Service Centers at all levels. Thereby, promoting the spirit of vanguard and responsibility of young people to participate in ensuring the arrangement of administrative units and the operation of the 2-level local government model smoothly, effectively and without interruption. Youth union and association chapters at all levels in the province have established and launched 53 "Digital Popularization" teams with the participation of 1,084 union members and young people, organized 35 "Digital Popularization" classes and 90 activities to popularize digital skills for people and young people.

Summer will pass, but the beautification of Quang Ninh youth will continue to spread. It is not only the rows of trees planted, the roads cleaned, or the gifts given... but also a journey to awaken the sense of responsibility, the will to rise up and the aspiration to build the homeland of young people from the most simple actions.
