On May 29th, the Kien Giang Provincial Association for the Support of Poor Patients announced that it is collaborating with the Mercer On Mission volunteer group to provide free medical examinations, treatment for bone and joint diseases, and prosthetic limb fitting for poor patients and people with disabilities.

The Mercer On Mission volunteer group, consisting of 53 members from Mercer University (USA), plans to provide medical examinations and medication to approximately 600 impoverished patients with bone and joint problems from May 27th to June 2nd, and to fit around 360 prosthetic limbs for people with disabilities. The total value of the medicine and equipment is approximately 4.4 billion VND, sponsored by the group.

Besides patients, poor disabled people in Kien Giang province also include poor patients from neighboring provinces. Cases with particularly difficult circumstances will receive support for travel expenses, gifts, shoes, walkers, etc.

Mr. Truong Thang Tran, Chairman of the Association for the Support of Poor Patients in Kien Giang Province, said that this program has profound humanitarian significance, contributing to creating conditions for people with disabilities to participate in production, develop the economy , and strive for a stable life.

According to Mr. Tran, the volunteer doctors and medical staff from Mercer University are highly specialized in treating bone and joint diseases, fitting prosthetic legs and arms, and are very dedicated, responsible, and enthusiastic in their care for patients. This is the third time the team has visited Kien Giang. In 2023, the team examined and fitted prosthetic arms for more than 1,200 disabled people in Kien Giang at a cost of over 4 billion VND.
