Flip Side 8: The Sun's Arms by director Ly Hai is a film that is attracting the attention of audiences during the April 30 - May 1 holiday this year. The film revolves around the character Tam (17 years old), who is passionate about music but is prevented by his strict father. Generational conflicts are realistically exploited by Ly Hai, the film ends with a sunny arm - a symbol of forgiveness, healing and love.
Since the release of the first images and trailer, the film has received mixed reviews. Many viewers said the script was uncreative and even quite old. Some said they had no interest in going to the cinema after watching the trailer.
Director Ly Hai said the trailers are only about 2 minutes long so they cannot cover the entire 2-hour content of the film.
"I'm not stupid enough to let people know the content in advance because it won't be interesting. I only show typical images of the film, not clearly showing how the story will develop. If the audience hasn't seen the film, they won't know what I'm going to tell and what twists and turns it will have," he said.
Ly Hai said that with mixed opinions on social networks, he first sends his thanks, whether they are compliments or criticisms. After that, he will wisely filter out the opinions to adjust the direction to be correct.
After the early screening of Lat mat 8: Vong tay nang in Ho Chi Minh City, not only the cast but also many artists, guests and audiences walked out of the theater with red and swollen eyes. Director Ly Hai said that he was very nervous before because he did not know if his story could touch the viewers' emotions or not.
"When I saw many viewers cry 2-3 times, some cried 3-4 times, I really broke down. People said they saw themselves in the story," he said.
Many viewers commented that Lat mat 8 not only conquers the eyes with beautiful frames but also evokes many emotions. Each character, each story touches a hidden corner of the viewer's soul, making them cry with sympathy.
Ly Hai confided: “Everyone has a family with different stories. Some are supported, some are not. But the silent sacrifice of a father, sometimes different from that of a mother, is something that touches every generation. I believe that every audience member who watches the film will find themselves in it.”
A special feature of Lat mat 8: Vong tay nang is that the music is pushed to the main line, taking up more than 30% of the film's duration. The artistic performances are invested in elaborately.
