The Saint Tran's salary distribution festival at Tran Thuong Temple (Ly Nhan District, Ha Nam Province) in 2024 will be held from the night of February 24 to February 25 (ie the night of January 14 to January 15) of the Year of the Dragon 2024.

The Organizing Committee has prepared 180,000 food bags to distribute at 19 locations around the temple area to people and tourists from all directions.

Mr. Dinh Cong Tan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ly Nhan district, said that the Duc Thanh Tran Salary Festival is one of the major festivals of the province, restored and maintained since 2009.

This is a traditional spiritual activity, praying for a year of favorable weather, bountiful harvests, good health, prosperity and peace for every family; at the same time, reminding generations of the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source," commemorating the merits of Saint Vu Hung Dao Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan.

According to legend, the Tran Thuong Temple area is the location chosen by Hung Dao Dai Vuong to build a granary, providing food for the army in the resistance war against the Mongol invaders in the 13th century.

The New Year's salary distribution festival is held at Tran Thuong Temple to preserve and promote the value of cultural heritage, while also propagating and educating the nation's tradition of patriotism and resistance to foreign invaders, and commemorating the great contributions of our ancestors.

The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ly Nhan district said that the Management Board of the Special National Monument of Tran Thuong Temple and the People's Committee of Ly Nhan district held the Opening Ceremony and the Water Procession Ceremony from the Red River to the temple on February 17 (January 8, Giap Thin year) according to the ritual that has existed for hundreds of years, maintained and preserved until now as a beautiful traditional cultural feature every early spring; at the same time, recalling the origin of the Tran family.

According to the plan, on the night of February 24 (January 14, year of the Dragon), after the spiritual ceremony, the Organizing Committee will organize salary distribution at 19 gates outside the outer gate for visitors from all directions.

Besides the ceremony, the festival is organized with many cultural, artistic and sports activities such as: Chinese chess tournament, tug of war tournament, Ly Nhan district open volleyball tournament and Tran Thuong festival night.

The salary distribution ceremony aims to recreate the history of "Phat quan luong" (Military salary distribution) to reward the Tran Dynasty army when they defeated the Yuan-Mongol invaders for the third time (in 1288) and to pray for a year of favorable weather, good harvests.

To ensure safety for the festival, the provincial police plan to coordinate with local authorities and functional forces to deploy plans to ensure political security, social order and safety, fire prevention and fighting, and traffic safety in the area.

The provincial police mobilized forces and vehicles, arranged to be on duty at 15 checkpoints inside and outside the festival area; synchronously deployed professional measures, proactively prevented, fought, stopped, and promptly handled cases of taking advantage of the festival to commit acts that complicated security and order.

Tran Thuong Temple is one of three large temples in the country worshiping Hung Dao Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan.

According to legend, on the way to fight the Yuan-Mongol army, seeing the dangerous terrain here, he could enter the Chau River, go to the Red River up to Thang Long or down to the sea, so he set up 6 food warehouses to serve the resistance war against the Yuan-Mongol army for the second time (in 1285).

Historical records do not record the Tran Dynasty's food storage here, but folk legends and vestiges around the Tran Thuong Temple area (such as: black ceramic and porcelain pieces, brown glaze, ivory gold of broken bowls and plates decorated in the style of Tran Dynasty ceramic art, many charcoal flower pot shells...) have reinforced this hypothesis. The current location of the temple is the main food storage.

In 1989, Tran Thuong Temple was ranked as a National Historical and Cultural Relic; in 2015, it was ranked as a Special National Relic./.
