Head-to-head history of U23 Vietnam vs U23 Indonesia: The Golden Star Warriors completely dominate

As predicted by experts, U23 Vietnam and U23 Indonesia together created the dream final match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament.

Two years ago, the two teams met in the final of the U23 Southeast Asia. After a goalless draw in both regulation time and extra time, U23 Vietnam won 6-5 in a nerve-wracking penalty shootout, successfully defending their title and becoming the first team to win the championship twice.

The last time U23 Indonesia was able to escape defeat was in the group stage of men's football at the 2017 SEA Games (0-0 draw).

But if we count the 2019 Southeast Asian U22 tournament, the predecessor of the Southeast Asian U23 tournament, the young team of the archipelago also defeated Vietnam with a score of 1-0 in the semi-finals, before defeating U22 Thailand (2-1) to reach the pinnacle of glory.

In the 2019 U23 Asian qualifiers, Trieu Viet Hung's goal in the 4th minute of extra time also helped U23 Vietnam defeat U23 Indonesia 1-0, before crushing U23 Thailand 4-0 in the final round to win all 9 points.

Returning to the final match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, U23 Vietnam is in a state of high confidence.

The team under the direction of coach Kim Sang-sik became the only team to have an all-win record. But the road to glory promises to be far from easy.

U23 Indonesia has the home field advantage and enthusiastic support from the Gelora Bung Karno stands. The young team of the archipelago country is also determined to pay back the debt they owed 2 years ago.
