As football (soccer) continues to develop and reach the status of "king" in the world of sports , the need inevitably arises to organize a global football tournament. Previously, the Olympic Games were seen as a competition between teams from around the world, but after all, it was only one sport within the larger Games.
Therefore, it was not yet commensurate with the scale and development of world football. In that context, a group of French football administrators, led by Jules Rimet, initiated the idea of a tournament bringing together the strongest national teams in the world.

This idea began to take shape in the 1920s. By 1928, the FIFA Congress in Amsterdam made the historic decision to hold the FIFA World Cup regularly every four years.
The first World Cup took place in 1930 in Uruguay. To this day, the tournament is still held regularly every four years. Historically, it has only been temporarily suspended in 1942 and 1946 due to the impact of World War II.
The 1930 tournament in Uruguay took place from July 13th to July 30th. The teams were divided into four groups, playing a round-robin format, with the group winners advancing to the semi-finals. In the group stage, Argentina, Uruguay, the USA, and (formerly) Yugoslavia qualified for the semi-finals.
The championship ultimately went to the host team after defeating their neighbors Argentina 4-2 at the Centenario Stadium in the final. Uruguay became the first team to win the World Cup.
French international Lucien Laurent made history by becoming the first player to score at the World Cup with his opening goal in the 19th minute of the 4/01 victory over Mexico. Meanwhile, striker Guillermo Stabile became the first ever World Cup top scorer with 8 goals.
