Billiards match schedule today: Tran Quyet Chien, genius Caudron in extremely difficult group

The 4th qualifying round of the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards World Cup 2025 (played on May 22) showed its harshness, when only 3/8 Vietnamese players "passed the test": Nguyen Nhu Le, Nguyen Dinh Quoc, Dao Van Ly. Expected faces such as defending champion Tran Duc Minh, Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu and Chiem Hong Thai all stopped. Thus, the main round (round 32) of the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards World Cup 2025 has the participation of 8 Vietnamese players. In addition to the 3 names that passed the 4th qualifying round, the faces that are set to appear in the round of 32 include: Tran Quyet Chien, Tran Thanh Luc, Bao Phuong Vinh (top 14 UMB), Le Thanh Tien and Nguyen Van Tri (special ticket for the host unit).

Tran Quyet Chien meets 2 Korean masters

Round 32 of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Billiards World Cup will take place today (May 23). Tran Quyet Chien is in Group D with Berkay Karakurt (Türkiye), Kim Haeng-jik (Korea) and Choi Wang-young (Korea). In the opening match, Quyet Chien will face Berkay Karakurt at 10:00. After that, Vietnam's No. 1 player will continue to compete in the 2nd and 3rd matches at 14:00 and 18:00.

Sharing with Thanh Nien, Tran Quyet Chien (left) said he wants to equal Caudron's achievement of winning the World Cup billiards stage in Ho Chi Minh City twice.

Tran Quyet Chien's opponents are all formidable. Among them, Kim Haeng-jik has won the World Cup billiards championship three times. Choi Wang-young is the current Korean champion.

The player who has received much attention from 3-cushion carom billiards fans is Frederic Caudron. The Belgian genius has been drawn into the “group of death” (group H), with Marco Zanetti (Italy), Sameh Sidhom (Egypt) and his compatriot Peter Ceulemans (Belgium). Caudron will play at 12:00, against Ceulemanes. Caudron will then play at 16:00 and 20:00.

Vietnamese players are not breathing easy.

Tran Thanh Luc is in Group E with Martin Horn (Germany), Roland Forthomme (Belgium) and Ruben Legazpi (Spain). The 2025 Bogota Billiards World Cup champion will play Forthomme at 12:00. Thanh Luc will play the remaining two matches at 16:00 and 20:00.

Bao Phuong Vinh is in Group C with Eddy Merckx (Belgium), Le Thanh Tien and Jorissen (Netherlands). Phuong Vinh will play his first match against Le Thanh Tien at 10am. The Binh Duong player will play the remaining two matches at 2pm and 6pm.

Thanh Luc is the first World Cup champion in 2025, when he was crowned in Bogota - Colombia in March.

Nguyen Nhu Le is in group A with Dick Jaspers (Netherlands), Mohamed Abdin (Egypt) and Ryuuji Umeda (Japan). Nhu Le will play the first match of round 32 at 10am, against Mohamed Abdin.

Nguyen Van Tri is in group B with Cho Myung-woo (Korea), Hwang Bong-joo (Korea) and Sergio Jimenez (Spain). In the opening match, Van Tri will face Jimenez at 10am.

Nguyen Dinh Quoc is in a very tough group F with Kim Jun-tae (Korea), Heo Jung-han (Korea) and Glenn Hofman (Netherlands). Dinh Quoc will play his first match at 12 o'clock, against Glenn Hofman.

Dao Van Ly also faced very strong players in Group G, including: Tasdemir Tayfun (Türkiye), Tolgahan Kiraz (Türkiye) and Jeremy Bury (France). In the first match of the round of 32, Van Ly faced the "king of time" Bury, at 12 o'clock.
