Vietnam's first mural village
Tam Thanh Village in Quang Phu Ward is like a miniature paradise appearing right on the coast. With a geographical location, one side is bordered by the murmuring waves of the sea, the other side embraces the gentle Truong Giang River, this place is not only a peaceful fishing village, but also a giant artistic painting, adding a new, youthful and attractive vitality to the land that is full of the salty taste of the sea.
Quang Phu Ward was established on the basis of merging Tam Phu, Tam Thanh communes and An Phu Ward (belonging to Tam Ky city, former Quang Nam province).

In 2016, Tam Thanh became the center of attention as the first mural village in Vietnam, born from a Vietnam-Korea cooperation project. Hundreds of giant paintings were painted on the walls of old houses, vividly depicting the lives of fishermen, the beauty of the ocean and meaningful messages about environmental protection.
The colorful strokes have breathed new life into the coastal fishing village, transforming it into a unique artistic space. Tam Thanh has quickly become an attractive "check-in" spot, attracting a large number of tourists to visit and take photos.

Mr. Tran Khanh Binh (44 years old, Hoa Trung village, Quang Phu ward) said that when there was a policy to "turn" Tam Thanh fishing village into a mural village, he did not hesitate to donate a nearly 100 m2 wall of his house to paint the largest painting. Because, all the people believe that this is an opportunity for this small fishing village to be known more and for people to develop their lives. It is this consensus that has contributed to creating a vibrant Tam Thanh like today.
"The local people's wish is for this fishing village to become an ideal destination to attract tourists. When this idea becomes a reality, the first people to benefit will be the people. Therefore, not only my family but most of the people responded to this policy, thanks to which, up to now, not only domestic tourists, but also many foreigners have known about this small fishing village," Mr. Binh expressed.
Sustainable and promising direction
Although some of the original murals have faded over time, Tam Thanh has not been forgotten. The local government has launched a project called “Developing Tourism Products in Community Art Villages”, with the support of artists and volunteers.
The village continues to be given a new, fresh coat. The works, from murals to art installations on basket boats, are all invested in and restored periodically every year. This has helped Tam Thanh maintain its unique beauty and always bring new experiences to visitors.

Coming to Tam Thanh, visitors not only admire the beautiful murals, but also immerse themselves in the peaceful, fresh space, leading visitors to the cool breeze, the sound of waves lapping day and night. Behind that artistic beauty, it is the friendliness and hospitality of the local people that keeps visitors, making anyone who sets foot here feel warm and want to return.
Every time she visits Tam Thanh fishing village, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai Thu (43 years old, from Hanoi) feels like she falls in love with this land. She said that every year when she travels with her family, in addition to exploring famous tourist attractions in Hoi An, she also stops by Tam Thanh. What she likes most here is not only the colorful paintings but also the warm and friendly welcome of the people.
With the advantage of a special geographical location, on one side is the gentle Truong Giang River, on the other side is a long beach with white sand and clear blue water, plus a unique mural village, Tam Thanh has been recognized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province (old) as a community tourism destination.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Vice Chairman of Quang Phu Ward People's Committee, said: "In recent years, the locality has effectively exploited its available potential and advantages. Our goal is to develop sustainable tourism, preserve cultural identity and improve people's income, in conjunction with programs and plans to develop sea tourism and community tourism in Da Nang City".
In the future, Quang Phu will continue to be invested in to become a "golden" destination, promising to bring memorable experiences to visitors. Connecting with neighboring tourist destinations and building tours to experience the culture of the coastal village will help Tam Thanh coastal village develop more and more, becoming a success story of community tourism in Vietnam.
"With the combination of art, nature and hospitality, Tam Thanh is not only a normal tourist destination but also a place to preserve cultural and human values, bringing a new vitality to Vietnam's coastal fishing villages," said Mr. Hieu.
