Guiu played for Barcelona before moving to Chelsea. |
Chelsea's hasty move comes as they are desperately searching for an additional striker before the transfer deadline on September 1, after Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury against Fulham on August 30.
Chelsea blocked Nicolas Jackson's loan move to Bayern Munich, just minutes after the Senegalese striker arrived in Bavaria for a medical . According to Sky Sports , by the evening of August 31, the deal had "100% collapsed". That means Jackson will continue to stay at Chelsea for coach Enzo Maresca to use.
However, Chelsea still chose to recall Guiu from the Stadium of Light. According to the Telegraph , a verbal agreement was reached on the afternoon of August 31 for this young talent to return to London. Guiu, 19, had only joined Sunderland on August 6, but just 25 days later, the loan deal was almost over.

Delap's injury brings Guiu back to Chelsea. |
After the international break, the Spanish striker is likely to return to Chelsea, aiming to improve on his six goals in 16 appearances last season – a season in which he played a major role in helping the club win the Europa Conference League.
Chelsea spent £90m on Delap and Joao Pedro this summer. However, a minor injury to Cole Palmer meant Pedro had to take on the No. 10 role, supporting Delap up front. When Delap limped off with a hamstring injury against Fulham, youngster Tyrique George was brought on to replace him.
Although Delap is only expected to be out for six to eight weeks, with Cole Palmer close to returning and Jackson's move to Bayern likely to fall through, Maresca could have up to four striker options in November. Chelsea have also been linked with a late move for Conrad Harder, Viktor Gyokeres' sidekick at Sporting.
Maresca also has a squad of quality wingers, including new recruits such as Jamie Gittens, Estevao and Alejandro Garnacho. Garnacho was recruited by Chelsea from Manchester United for 40 million pounds.
