According to the draw results for the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers, Vietnam U23 fell into Group C with Bangladesh, Singapore and Yemen. Notably, Singapore and Yemen were familiar opponents when they were in the same group with Vietnam in the 2024 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers. At that time, Vietnam U23 won the ticket to continue with the top spot in the group.
This year's qualifiers will take place in September 2025, with the venue depending on the host country of each group. A total of 44 teams will participate, divided into 11 groups (4 teams each), playing a round-robin. The 11 group winners and the four best runners-up will qualify for the finals in Saudi Arabia in January 2026. The host country will receive a special entry.
Coach Kim Sang Sik is planning to prepare carefully, including focusing on the national team and participating in the U23 Southeast Asia before the qualifying round.
