On the night of August 31, many subscribers of Viettel mobile network were surprised to see that the network's display name on their phones had changed to the words "Tu hao Viet Nam" (Proud of Vietnam).
No need for flashy announcements or noisy promotional campaigns, just a subtle change in the network name displayed on the phone, Viettel has delivered a simple yet profound message, evoking national pride.
According to the record, iPhone users using Viettel network only need to restart the device or turn on "Airplane Mode" and then turn it off, the words "Proud of Vietnam" will appear instead of the familiar network name. Although short, this phrase is enough to awaken the emotions and pride of millions of Vietnamese people, especially in the sacred moment leading up to National Day September 2.
In the telecommunications industry, changing the display name of a network operator is very rare. Usually, this change only occurs when there is a change in brand name, identity or transmission technology such as from 3G to 4G, 5G. Therefore, Viettel's initiative to make this change with the purpose of conveying a patriotic message becomes even more special.
Up to now, only Viettel network has changed its display name. Users should also note that the new name change is only on iPhone models.
Those small lines of text, although appearing only on the corner of the screen, carry the power to inspire, reminding each person of their sense of responsibility to the community and the Fatherland.
Millions of phones displaying the same message at the most meaningful moment before National Day on September 2nd is a silent "show of appreciation", reminding of the love for the country that is being extended through each digital "step" of Vietnam.
Previously, in 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic was complicated in Vietnam, major carriers such as Viettel, Vinaphone and Mobifone also took similar actions to raise public awareness. All three carriers simultaneously changed their display names to messages such as "Stay home!" or "#stayhome" to encourage people to comply with social distancing and limit social contact.
