According to The Athletic , Man United and Elche entered direct negotiations to find a way out for Tyrell Malacia - the left-back who is no longer in coach Ruben Amorim's plans. However, all deals fell through at the last minute when the two sides could not agree on a permanent purchase clause after the loan period.

The incident occurred just hours before the transfer window closed, leaving Amorim with little time to deal with the “redundant” players in his squad. This means Malacia is almost certain to continue at Old Trafford, despite having just 12 months left on his £75,000-a-week contract.

Malacia came through the Feyenoord academy, making his first-team debut in 2017, impressing with his pace, tenacity and passionate style of play. His outstanding form in the Eredivisie saw him attract the attention of several big clubs, before becoming Erik ten Hag's first signing at Manchester United in the summer of 2022. Despite bringing a breath of fresh air to the Red Devils' defence, Ten Hag's departure quickly saw the Dutch defender dropped from the team's plans.

From being a hope, Malacia is now just a burden that Amorim wants to liquidate soon. But with the failed deal with Elche, his journey ahead at Old Trafford is even more gloomy.
